I had to reinstall Vista on my friends Acer Extensa 4420 laptop. I am having trouble installing the driver for the WiFi. In the Device Manager, the only unknown devices is "Network Controller". I tried installing the driver BroadCom Wireless 802.11g driver, but when I do I get "Windows could not find driver software for your device." Any suggestions would be helpful.

Did you get all of the necessary laptop drivers and system software from Acer?
-
Then maybe you have the Atheros Wireless Adapter... click to download.

I have installed all the drivers that Acer has on their site for the Extensa 4420. Yes, I have tried the Atheros Wireless adapter as well.
The Extensa has 2 switches in the front to turn the bluetooth and WiFi on and off. Neither of these will not turn on when I hit the switch. The bluetooth driver is installed.
What I'm thinking is that maybe I installed the wrong drivers for other hardware components, which might be the reason why the WiFi adapter is not functioning.
What I'm thinking about doing is wiping the laptop again, but I would really rather not. -
Name the wireless card is on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop. Maybe Network Controller for LAN?

hi members im new to the forum. i had the same problem with my extensa 5510, i installed the intel abgn internal wifi card, the wifi light on the front would not come on even when i switched it on the front of laptop i rang acer and they told me that the acer 5510 would not except it so i left it at that and forgot about it for a while 10 months to be exact. only today i thought that i would have another go at it so i installed the drivers through win 7 and it still did'nt work so i thought i would try and update the bios well my bios was v3.20 and there was an update for it from acer's website so i updated it to v3.60 very easy to install so it rebooted it self and when it came on the wifi light came on too i was shocked to think that it was the bios fault thinking that the wifi card wasn't there at all so im happy now it is working on n wifi not g wifi brill
