This is a brand new video, it looks like Asus has re-badged this 2 year old router as an ROG router now.

so this is the same as my AC5300 router but rebadged? -
Seems to be, but it might have newer software too, firmware to match.
Does the back panel match your AC5300?
It might be a bit of an upgrade, but I guess they couldn't add any more "Tarantula" legs, so they've stopped with this layout for now.
There's something to say about a device that is popular enough to keep building, and there's been almost 2 years to optimize the firmware.
I wonder if they use the same firmware? You could just use the new stuff to upgrade your AC5300 and gain some new features

That's what I just asked Merlin here: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/rog-rapture-gt-ac5300-owners.38794/page-6#post-322040hmscott likes this. -
It looks good, the version tree from AC5300 to GT AC5300 looks like it's progressive in the same numbering:
Newest for AC5300 Version 3.0.0.4.380.7378

Newest for GT AC5300 Version 3.0.0.4.382.11242

Unless it has new hardware with more range, I won't botherhmscott likes this. -
Does it?

I have the new router. The hardware is different, different chip, CPU 4core CPU instead or 2core like the original 5300, 8 ports instead of 4. Dedicated game ports 1&2 suppose to decrease ms latency when plugged into those ports. Aggregated ports for NAS.

It seems odd Asus would keep up the same firmware numbering scheme for 2 "different" routers. Usually they start over with the numbering for new firmware on new devices.
@Phoenix are you going to get one? Maybe do a review on the differences in performance between them? -

uhh no, not worth the upgrade and the QC of ASUS seems to be failing if you read those forums, some had to return a few, random reboots and disconnections. Classical ASUS Swiss Cheese
