Anyone ever use 2wire.com bandwidth testing?
It test the actual download speed you get, not the max you can get.
For example:
On speedtest.net I get 192KBps
On 2wire.com I get 23KBps
This is true because I live too far out to have the full DSL speed... which seems like the best explanation.
AT&T came out to test the whole phone lines and then said so.
But in some way I dont believe them... maybe its because the phone lines in the house are too old...
Anyways... could anyone tell me if I am right?

Interesting. Well, I have cable, but I see what you mean.
I get 7339 kbps on speedtest and 5.1 Mbps on 2wire.
However, I believe speedtest chooses the closest server to test your connection speed, while 2wire will load their test page from the same server every time. So I'm not sure you can really compare the 2wire results with others. -
Well that means 0.89MBps (megabytes per second) on speedtest.com
And on 2wire 0.63MBps
So I believe 2wire gives you more accurate results,
because when I download anything the highest speed I get is 23KBps
And 2wire says I get 192kbps which means 23KBps
speedtest says I get 700kbps which is the MAX banwidth achievable on my line... so I believe that is BS
2wire gives you the real result -
I understand what you are saying, but I'm not sure that necessarily holds true for everyone. I have pulled > 1 MBps on internet downloads. Also, since everyone uses a different server for speedtest (as opposed to the same server for 2wire), I was wondering whether we can accurately compare the 2wire results since our respective distances from the 2wire server may be drastically different.

im supposed to get 192KBps but I live too far away so the DSL is slower... with speedtest.net I get 192KBps (after converting kbps to KBps) and on 2wire.com it tells me 23KBps / 200kbps
And I did those test in holland, germany, france, and michigan
And I tried this for a friends desktop
And again... 2wire said 23KBps that is my TOP speed on any download...
A friend had 200 OR 250 KBps on speedtest and his downloads are always around 166KBps
My dad has a commercial line over in Europe since he need information fast, even though hes never at home, and he only reads email. lol
And it said 2.5MBps (mega bytes) and on 2wire it said 1.6MBps
And when I downloaded 2 files both peaked at 1.6MBps...
I still think 2wire holds true... no matter where, what speed... -

That not necessarly true. It all depends on where you location is in relation to the test site. If you install NetStat on your desktop you will get actual speeds on all connections, in a real time chart.
Beatsiz, The phone company can install an amp on your line if they can not tweak your line to meat spec. This normally adds $5 to the bill, but you will get better performance than what you currently get. And yes old lines to impact the service. -
An amplifier? I didnt know that
Old lines.... Ill have to see if its possible to rewire... that COULD change it... but still
23KBps is very very painful
