Please help me here. I live in a hostel in Dubai. The wireless here is bad. We have about 30 users using one 2 mbps connection and all of them are downloading something or the other. I dont have enough bandwidth to even surf the net??
Can I steal other's bandwidth or something so that I get better speeds??

ummmm...well....no...
All of the QoS stuff is set via the router. But a 2mb connection is not enough for 30 users to share so it's just gonna be slow. You might try adjusting the settings on your wifi card to work in a crowded environment. That might help some if you are getting interferrence from all the other users around you.
Otherwise I don't recall anything that might work as I read you want...of course they could all begin having "accidents" while wandering the city or in their sleep...but that might be a tad extreme, plus people might begin to talk...

Your internet has to work better than mine. The apartment complex I live in has one 5mb connection for ~500 people, all college students which means lots of downloading and gaming.

I know it's illegal to steal wi-fi connections here in the US, and whatever I hear about Dubai, it's that the laws there are far stricter. I would be scared for my life to steal anything in Dubai.
-
Nah dont worry bout that
Everybody out here dont know anything in detail about wireless they wont be able to figure anything out. -
Ignorance of the law doesn't make them immune to the law. Also, there is an ethical question to consider, sa_ill, isn't there?
-
kind of a sacry 'tude ain't it? makes us Americans look so nice to people around the world...geeze...
wonder what they cut off for stealing wifi? -
For informational purposes only, it is not legal, but it is very possible to
"punt" people off their wireless connections... -
LOL. Yep. I read about this. It's part of another thing which I won't get into here either.
-
like ZX wrote sure it is possible...but well, there can be, ummmm, issues with that option...ya silly!

Short of getting your own connection--I don't think there's a whole lot you can do legally. And discussion of the illegal methods cannot be held here on NBR.
I agree with what Gautam has said--I would definitely beware of breaking any laws--particularly in that part of the world.
Can I suck some bandwidth in a wireless network??
