I have had a Averatec 5400 series notebook for several years without any problem.
I took it to work to add some information and attempted to connect to our local network.
We have at least six different wireless networks available since we deal heavily with computers.
When I go to Wireless Network Connection icon at bottom of the screen and right mouse click, then click on "View Available Wireless Networks" it shows nothing.
The Wireless Network Connection window says "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection".
When I click on "Refresh network list" - still nothing.
I have activated "Wireless LAN Access" by pressing Fn + F2 and the light does come on.
I have used the wireless feature many times in the past, but not at this location.
Any comments or suggestion would be appreciated.

Try Repairing the connection and disableing your LAN and then enabling.
-
Also the wireless lan could be set to not broadcast its SSID. That would cause it to not show up under the "Available Wireless Networks". What OS are you running?
-
Before asking for help here, you should contact your company's computer support department. The network might not broadcast the SSID, may have MAC filtering enabled, or any number of security protocols established that will prevent you from joining the network.
-
Thank you all for your response.
The SSID are available and in use.
I took the computer home last night and was unable to find my network. This computer has been connected to it many times before.
I am just not seeing any networks.
Am wondering if the NIC card could be damaged. This would be slightly beyond my knowledge.
Any other suggestions?

Take a look at the device manager and see if the card is listed and has no errors. Also take a look at your personal firewall. It may have the port locked out.
Kegobeer, Averatec support is the worst of any service I have dealt with. There line of fixing things is a system restore, from the DVD or Hidden partition. And the repair service is next to none, they are likely to break more than the fix. -
I wasn't referring to the laptop manufacturer - I was referring to his company's tech department, as they own the network and can better troubleshoot a connection problem. However, it's good to know that Avertec support is garbage, so I know to steer clear of them.
Richard, I recommend uninstalling the network card (from the control panel) and allowing Windows to find it and reinstall. -
Whenever I have seen the message "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection" it has been because another device manager is on the case. I have seen it on my HP laptop which has 3Com wireless software and on my company Thinkpad which has IBM wireless software. If there were an issue with the network declining to assign an IP address you would not get that message.

The card is recognized in the Drive Manager.
The Firewall is turned OFF.
Drivers are present and valid.
No errors or conflicts.
I can get online using a hard wire connection.
Updated to lastest drivers.
Un-installed NIC and Windows found it without problem.
This one has me scratching my head.

Don't know if this will help, but I at one time had problem with my Avertec 6130. I must use the drivers supplied by Averatec for the raylink initially. Since then I think I uses MS updater to install a newer driver supplied by Raylink for MS. I tried newer drivers directly from Raylink and it made it worst, so I rolled back to the Averatec/MS supplied drives.
There is setting in advanced properties related to CAM. I have CAM when AC Power turned disabled, and Power Saving mode CAM.
If you Disable your FW did MS turn back on their's. Look at your port services. If AEEGIS Protocol is checked to load, you need to disable this. And the same can be said for Odyssey Network. Infact you only really need 2-3 services, TCP/IP, Client for MS network and file and printer sharing if you need it.
Can not get connected
