I have a problem connecting to a specific WLAN. Whenever I try it stalls at "Waiting for association" and then it times out and tells me it couldn't connect.
It's a Linksys router and there is no protection at all. I've been using it for some days and then suddenly one day I couldn't connect. I've tried updating the drivers to my wireless card (Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 4965AGN) and also tried to remove and re-install Lenovo Access Connections. Also tried to remove Lenovo AC and only use Vista's built-in network manager.
I've tried to disable Vista's firewall, NOD32 AV and everything else I can come up with. I didn't made any update to any programs or drivers prior so I can't think of anything to remove/roll-back. I've also tried to restart the router and made sure that there's no protection/encryption. Unfortunately I can't try with a cable at the moment.
I can connect to other WLAN's without a problem, just not this one...
Hopefully someone can help me with this... Right now I'm using my cell phone to get online via Bluetooth and 3G.

Check in the network and sharing center control panel applet and see if the network in question is configured as a public or a private network. If it's set as public, change it to private.

When it times out and tells me I can't connect to the network it tells me the network is defined as a 'hidden' network and I should check that the network is within range of my computer. But I know it is, as I've had no problems connecting before... -
What sort of a network is this? If the network's admins want it "hidden" then it may be that they don't want you connecting to it, even though you can technically "see" the network.

First, power cycle all your devices: modem, router, and laptop. See if that works, if not, connect your PC to one of the router's LAN ports, not the internet port. Then, hop online, download the latest firmware, and upgrade the old one on your router. Then reboot the router by removing the power and re-connecting it. Now, try and associate.

CCNA response FTW!
All jokes aside, i'm really curious to see how this one is solved. Never ran into this "association" issue myself.
At the same time, amoney3 lists some very good protocols to follow. -
sounds to me like this is not your network
You've been "using (the network)", not using the router. If that is the case, you shouldn't be.
If you have permission to use the network, take the Lenovo software out of the equation and switch to Windows wireless zero configuration --at least temporarily to rule out the Lenovo -
It might be your firewall!

It's not my network or router but one of my friends. I'm living in his apartment until he gets home from vacation. I don't want to change to many things regarding his network/router settings. He's pretty strict regarding his IT stuff and has his ways of doing things...
-
I could always use a loooong cable as the router is located a pretty non-practical place...
-
-
I won't... He's in the United States and I'm in Denmark... So it's not too easy to get in touch with him... I will probably just use a long cable and then thats it...

Why dont you make a purchase on a new wireless router? Its a good long term investment. Or you can buy a wireless HUB to plug in the back of the router!
