Can't connect to the network drive: Windows 7

I just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 HP and now can no longer connect to the network drive. That drive is on a machine running Windows 2000. I've tried changing the settings to Home Network and playing with all the settings under networking options and advanced options. I can connect to the internet without difficulty. Thanks for any help,.

 

Can you see the drive?

Or can't the drive and can't access it.

I assume you can see the computer's IP adress but not the network $Share.

 

I can see the server computer that the network drive is on. The error I receive is incorrect password/user name.

 

Do you have a local username on the server computer? Or was the share access through an "Everyone" account?

The upgrade didn't change the network all that much. So I'm guessing it's something server side.

 

Everyone has a unique username and password.

 

Yeah I'm not sure where the road block is, but I can access the drive from any of the other computers in the office running XP and Vista. It's just the 2 running 7 that aren't linking up.

Try this.

type "secpol.msc" into the run dialog

Look under Local policy/Security options

I think it's called LAN manager Authentication level. Set it to send LM responses.

I'm surprised the Vista machine works.

Oh hummm, I should of asked what version of Windows you are running. Secpol.msc is part of the Admin tools with Professional/Ultimate.

You should google LAN Manager Authentication level. That't the setting I'm thinking of.

same problem on XP

 

open my comp down on the left click on network , ten click on the drive you want and all the folders will show on the right , not like xp it just works . as long as the you hve same work group[ nme on all comps

So you upgraded a machine that was running Vista to Win. 7 and now you cannot connect to a Network Drive?

Sounds like a Security issue to me. I would say to re-do your Sharing and Security permissions on the Network Drive on the Windows 2000 machine. Remove/Delete apply settings and then Re-Add the local user account for the Windows 7 machine that you're using to try and connect, or add the everyone user account and give full permissions. Or create a duplicate user that's on on the Win. 7 machine on the Server 2000 machine and add that user to the permissions list and give the applicable permissions.

OK I'm back. Do you think this is a problem with me having Windows 7 HP and not Pro? Will upgrading to Pro solve the problem? I've tried it on another Windows 7 HP computer and same problems/symptoms. I haven't tried your fix above yet, but this was my first day back at work. Will try it next time I get a free minute.
