So I'm getting a new laptop next week which will have a wireless G card. I've been researching routers to buy for home use. From what I see many people on this forum seem to suggest the Linksys WRT54GL. I have also been reading some reviews and hear the Netgear WPN824 is a really good wireless G router, but it seems not as many people use it. Anyone have any advice on why I should buy one over the other?

I have not owned the particular models but I have owned both Netgear and Linksys products. Linksys is generally more expensive than Netgear products but in my experience the Linksys products have been more reliable.
-
definitely linksys. the wrt54g is an inexpensive and reliable router.
-
Linksys's parent company is Cisco. Cisco manufactures the de-facto standard routers for the industry. Linksys is reputable; even though I had to have the WRT54GS replaced with a D-Link router, I am sure it works fine because I eventually found out that the modem, not the router, was the culprit. So yeah...I vote for the Linksys.

The main advantage of the WRT54GL is all the 3rd party software for it. I'm running Tomato on mine and love it. I can't imagine ever going back to the mediocre default software load.

You want a router that will last longer? Get yourself a netgear!
-
linksys will last longer. we aren't comparing batteries.
-
Netgear doesn't need batteries, it's solar powered
-
oh really? wanna make a wager on which router would work longer in the sun?
-
Thanks everyone, the order is done, I've decided on the Linksys WRT54GL, seems like i can't go wrong.
-
You have, netgear is the best, trust me!
-
Going with Linksys on this one...
Ive had my WRT54G for like 3 years now, its been solid reliable since -
I heard the WRT54G had high latency issues!
-
heard? there's all kinds of conditions that can make your router latent. and you never took me up on my bet who would last longer in the sun?
-
You would last longer, I can see it on your eyes
Can't decide between Linksys WRT54GL or Netgear WPN824
