I remember there was a thread about this but can't find it. I could be wrong.
So I go to a community college (CCSF in Ca) and use their wi-fi with my laptop whether it be in class or in the library. After a semester one time in the library I was not able to play CSS or even go on AIM. Is there a way around this?

Bandwidth quota? You might have exceeded it. If your laptop didn't pass disinfection (eg. there's a threat on your computer) then you might have been quarantined on the network. (this is usually only done on wired connections though) The ports for AIM or CSS might have been blocked. The easiest way to check is to ask or visit the help desk.

So I'm guessing I won't be able to play games at school anymore? Lol

Back in college it was impossible to connect just about anything that wasn't http traffic so we used http://www.proxycap.com/
May or may not be of any use to you. But we used it for everything from internet gaming to im clients that were otherwise blocked. -
Games and other stuff like that didn't work at my university either, they block it somehow. Kind of stunk but I guess they have reasons for it, I just accepted that I wouldn't be able to play games at school.

last semester i was able to use utorrent via ethernet connection but not wifi.
this semester i can't use utorrent via ether or wifi. meaning i can't download anything, but yet it's super fast when i download of a site. -
The programs you guys mentioned above all use well-known ports that can simply be blocked by the IT department. Chances are, you will have issues with AOL webmail also.

i have not heard aol forever!
is there any way around it, unless im an 1337 haxor -
I doubt it would be a good idea for us to help you circumvent limitations on your school network.
Instead, consider asking the local network admin why certain applications/ports are blocked - their explanation might help you understand why such rules are in place, even though you might not agree with them. -
there's rules for a reason so i'll obey them. thanks for the help.
