I am unable to connect to the internet wirelessly using this laptop. The only way to get access is by wired ethernet or dailup. For some reason this laptop can't connect to my router (Piece of junk given by Verzion for DSL). However it use to connect to my previous neighbors router, I don't know what router they had. If I disable all firewalls and such it will say it's connected but now service will be available to the laptop. I have a total of 4 computers including this one and this is the only laptop that doesn't work. Help me please.

What OS are you running on the Compaq, and on your other computers?
-
I'm running xp on the Compaq & Acer. Vista on the other two
-
The first thing to do, if you haven't do so already, is to download the Link Layer Topology Discovery ("LLTD") Responder from Microsoft's website (this link will take you to the download page) and install it on the Compaq and the Acer (i.e., the two computers running XP). The reason for this is that _Vista uses a different method for "seeing" a network than does XP, and without the LLTD Responder, _Vista-based machines have a hard time "seeing" XP-based machines.
This in and of itself will probably not solve your specific problem, but it will make your network function better and thus make it easier to solve the actual problem.
Now, is it just one of the _Vista machines that cannot connect? -
The only machine that can't connect is the Compaq laptop thats running XP.
-
Duh! Sorry, my bad; I was trying to do too many things at once when I added that question.
Have you downloaded/installed the LLTD Responder? -
Still at work right now I'll try that as soon as I get home
-
Sounds good.
-
I tried install that software with no luck. It still saying it's connected with limited access
-
Like I said earlier, I didn't think it would solve the problem, but when you've got a mixture of XP and _Vista systems, that piece of software should come first because it's a known issue and I prefer to clear up the knowns before I go searching for the unknowns.
Don't disable your firewalls - wireless connections should go through and so there's no reason to run the risk of exposing yourself to something bad.
Now, on your router, can you provide me with the make/model? Next, can you access the router's administrative webpage (usu. you just type the router's IP address into the address bar of your browser and you're there, although you may need to enter a user name and a password, too)? If so, check to see if you have security enabled on the router - if it's enabled, were the security settings (i.e., the security key) also entered into the wireless connection configuration on the Compaq? Also, check to see if MAC address filtering is enabled on the router, and if so, whether or not the Compaq's MAC address has been added to the list of allowed computers.
Next, to check the wireless configuration on the Compaq, please do the following:
1) From the Start menu, left-click on the menu item called "Run..."
2) In the box that opens up, type "cmd" (but without the quotes)
3) In the black console window that opens up, please type "ipconfig /all" (again, without the quotes)
4) Depending on how quick of a typist you are, either type the results that you see from doing that into a new post, or else take a screenshot copy of the screen (shift+print-screen), and attach the image file to a new post as an attachment. -
Sorry for the delay I wasn't home all weekend.

Your router doesn't see your computer. Go to device manager, network adapter and tell us if your wireless adapter is working properly.
-
It says it's working properly no conflicts found
-
Is DHCP enable on your router?
-
Is this a setting I would find in the wireless manger for the router?
