I have a westell versalink Model 327W wireless router/modem.
lately, the internet becomes technically disconnected ie it ceases to send and recieve packets nearly everytime the phone is picked up/rings, or bad weather occurs, or when it just simply doesn't feel like working.\
there are five lights that light up when every thingis working and at least 4 of those lights have to be on for the wired internet to work. Unfortunately the most important light is the one that turns off. when that light is off I have no internet.
can anyone clue me in to a solution.
Thanks in advance, I look forward to reading all of your replies.

It sounds like the phone is interfering with the DSL. Check to make sure you lines are wired correctly. I think I have only seen about 5% that are, in old houses. No one checks for correct polarity any more. Was criticle for modems to work good. But since every thing is digital, now one even cares, they just connect them. You can get phone line testers from may sources, RadioShack, Frys, I even think HomeDepot and Lowes carry them.

The lines house lines are ok, but I wounder if either the phone filters or the line from the wall to modem/router is faulty.
how much should a decent one of these line testers cost? -
wireless phone? I have old fashion analogue phones with phone filters placed between the wall jack and the phone.
I'll try the changing of the channels, but a question arises; do I simply change through the wired computer and it changes all computers connected, or do I have to change the channel on all the computers? -

Analog phone, are sensitivity to wiring, and they pull a lot of current when it comes to ringing. If you have a phone line tester verify the the polarity is correct. You would be surprised how many I have found that have been reversed wired. If so you may need to correct some wiring issues. With digital it makes no difference, they auto configure to the line. DSL lines are Polarity sensitive.

Ok then, when I can collect the money I'll go get one. till then I hope the connection drops are kept to a minimum.
