2 wireless adapters, both G. Why does the connection icon say 11mbps only? The computers are just feet apart.

Is this an Ad-Hoc (no router) network or an infustructure (router) network?]
Well from the looks of your old posts, it looks Ad-hoc but im just making sure. If you go into the settings, i believe there is a setting for B Only, G only, and mixed. -
Yup, ad hoc. It's still 11mbps even when I specifiy G mode only. It's not that it overly matters to me but I want to know if I'm only being fooled into thinking I could actually get speeds of 54mbps.
-
As far as I know, Ad-hoc is limited to 11Mbps.
-
I see. Windows limits it to 11mbps? Why don't they allow faster speeds?
-
No, not Windows. The 802.11g specs require that devices work up to 54Mbps in infrastructure mode and up to 11Mbps in ad-hoc mode. Most manufacturers, both hardware and software, don't bother to implement something that isn't demanded by the standard.

That explains it. Thanks Doc.
