Dell e1705
3945ABG
Recently I did a reformat and reinstall and have been having major issues. I have tried the drivers off both Intel's servers, and Dell's servers and subtle difference.
At first I updated to the *newest* driver off Dell. Internet kept hanging, having crashes etc. I even noticed the green wifi logo light off. Powering down kept giving me this:

I rolled back to an older version, after *much* difficulty. I would delete and uninstall the up-to-date version. When I installed the older copy it again listed the newest version. I tried again, with a reboot in between the installation and still difficult. I had to search for the version, and then it asked me if I wanted the new or old. Finally got the old one on.
Now it doesn't crash the same way. It still hangs, but I can "repair" the connection and it works again. Sometimes a few minutes or hours. My router's drivers are up to date too.
I *NEVER* had this problem before the reformat and fresh installation.

Try uninstalling the lame Dell drivers, everything including the registry entries ect. then restart, run MS update and use the provided wireless drivers.

I have the 1705, and I've reformatted several times and never had any problems with my 3945. Did you follow any of the format guides on the Dell board? It sounds like you didn't install all of the necessary Dell drivers/software.

Any of the new drivers lock the system up, where the older drivers allow you to repair the connection instead of rebooting.
Last night the newest driver worked, but this morning almost instantly it started locking up repeatedly, the he wifi light would go out.
The event viewer had this:
Also now, between certain network activity, the green wifi light actually blinks for about ten seconds, and then remains lit. This is an intermittent and sporadic activity. -
Again, I ask you:
-
To my knowledge I installed everything.

I will try reformatting again on Wednesday.

You have to be careful with intel drives, some are just patches. They have to be installed in th eorder that they were released. It's also posiable that one of your neighbors installed a MIMO router, 11g or 11n. Most of these have problem playing with others. They can and will knock you off line, if the user never updated the drivers.

I have reformatted, and used the newest adapter driver right off the Intel site. Still have the light turning off and connection tray crapping out.

Have you checked for any BIOS updates?
Also try using an older device driver. Load the original one if you have it. Also what length Cat5 cable are you using? And is it home made or purchased.
Check you router and make sure you are not MAC Filtering. Or have firewall rules that will block your access.
Also check to make sure there are not 2 MAC Address the same. Networks Don't like that. -
Kylerg, I started having this problem after a dell technician installed drivers on my computer for the wireless. I do have mac filtering on my network, but I know this is not the cause. I pop in another hard drive with vista on it and the wireless works perfect.

Check you power management on your notebook. It may be turning off the wireless to save energy. These are hidden with port properties as well as the CP. You can all ways roll back the driver to the previous one using system restore.
