I've placed an order on a Dell Inspiron 6400. I can still change the specs because they're still processing my order. I read the wireless guide and thats confusing for me...
I chose option #1 but I keep wondering if its the right choice. This laptop is for the purpose of school, a DTR, and some occassional gaming. Should I call them to change my wireless network card? Which option would best fit my needs and why? Can someone explain to me?![]()
1. Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card (54Mbps) [Included in Price]
2. Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 Internal Wireless [add $10]
3. Dell Draft N Internal Wireless [add $50]
4. Dell Draft N Internal Wireless and Bluetooth [add $100]
5. Dell Draft N Internal Wireless, Netgear Draft N wireless router,Bluetooth [add $249]

#2 is stronger than #1 and should provide better reception.
#3-5 are draft N which is just a draft and definitely a joke...most cards are outperformed by standard a/b/g cards and that probably will not change until they finalize the n standard. There is no guarantee that draft n parts will work with final n hardware either. -
If you can, pay the ten bucks. You'd be amazed how much more signal you can manage with the 3945 card.

I'm sure that #2 is a a/b/g card which mean you can connect to any AP that transmit a/b/g signal. If #1 is g only then #2 is the best which provide you with more standard. The rest is not worth it IMHO. If you ever need bluetooth, maybe it can be add later or choose a separate option for bluetooth only.
Did I choose the right wireless network card?
