Ok so I have broadband on a cable modem which is wired via lan cable to my PC. My PC has wireless capability and so does my new laptop, now what im wondering is if it is possible to (securly) set up a network connection between the two so I can
A.) (Most importantly) Share the internet connection from my PC to my laptop
B.) Share files between the two
So far I've found it really difficult on how to set up a wireless network with these capabilities and Im under the impression now that I can only do it via a router. is this correct, and if not, can anyone point me to a good site that covers both setting up a network and how to connect to it via another device?
Thanks!

You can set up an ad-hoc wireless network without a router. However, I would still recommend using a router. It is easier than setting up Internet Connection Sharing and you won't lose internet access if your PC goes down. Plus routers are cheap these days

yeah just discovered the ad-hoc thing, but it keeps saying my passcode is incorrect when I try to connect, guess im gonna have to fork out more money for a router :s

yes, you'd want to get something with an inbuilt switch.
any particular reason for sticking with dlink as apposed to something much much better such as linksys, senao, almost anything else? -
im confused about your reply... inbuilt switch?
Do I really need a wireless router?
