I've always wondered, when im download something from anywhere my download speed never goes past 350kb/s. Is this because my internet company (Verizon Wireless) capped my download speed? Is that normal? Thanks for any info you give me![]()

All ISPs cap not only download but upload speeds as well. Otherwise, the internet would be a first-come-first-serve service where the first few users hog all the bandwidth. Also bandwidth is expensive so your ISP wants to be able to squeeze as many users in as possible to pay for the bandwidth that they buy.

what speed are you paying for i get around 440kb/s on a 4meg service!
-
Im not sure what i pay for :-S Would that be on the bill?

You probably have a 3 mb connection. Pay more get more

Verizon Wireless? Are you using WWAN?
-
Verizon has fios...but is he using wwan? =-O

FIOS isn't wireless. And he definitely doesn't have it, or he'd get speeds of over 1 MB/s. He probably has DSL.

Yeah, you couldn't possibly be getting 350k down on Verizon Wireless. The best EVDO signal they have is EVDO Rev A, which is still only like, 1.5-2mbps if you are lucky.
But depending on your plan for regular internet (DSL, Cable), you are limited depending on which plan you have. -
All depends of the plan you bought, which should be on your bill. But don't get lured with the overall speed promised (EVDO 1-2Mbps), which is much higher than the the true throughput.
Download speed capped?
