Hi,
I am a wireless n00b and on the onset, apologies for begining a new thread about the 2200BG. The exisiting one is too cluttered with repeatitions. So admin fellas, do excuse!
I have a Toshiba Satellite M30-154 with Intel Pro W/less 2200BG pre-installed, WinXP Pro SP2.I subscribe to a 11MBPS broadband and hence use an SMC Barricade Plus 7004WFW Router for my home wireless network. This router is a simple plug and play device-have connected my existing DSL LAN cable to it and XP automatically detected this network & connected. Now comes the problem...(!)
I wud get excellent connectivity and range for exactly 500 or so packets recd. Then I have 5 bars/connected status/small packets being sent but IE/Mozilla can't find requested website messages. Technically connected but can't access jack****.
I heard all that you guys spoke, downloaded latest SMC firmware, Intel drivers (WLAN_Generic_SW_2200BG_2915ABG_3945ABG_V10.1.0.3_TIC_107948). Still the same situation.
Someone suggested I add wireless 8.1.1.0 - generic TIC 88663-Old Driver that works. And, for good measures, I ran WinsockXPFix to repair any damage to registry.
Bingo! I connect and last for 9500 packets/11 minutes. Then again the same situation.
So my situation is-New laptop,New Router,Latest+not so latest drivers, Latest firmware, excellent hardwire connection & no wireless.
I have tried everything guys. Ask me and I will tell you anything else that u wanna know. But help me deal with this!! My home wireless hotspot dream is going down the drain!!!!

ok. ignoring the packets sent/received. are you able to hit any sites at all?
can you run an ipconfig and post the results? -

Well I had a problem like that. Let the Intel Program for the card manage the connection. When I had Windows managing my connection it dropped out all the time.
Hope this helps. -
Thanks both of you.
Ok drumfu, I cant hit ANY site whatsoever, not even my messengers once the connection takes a hit. I can only sit and admire then that it seems connected!!
USAFdude- I did let Intel Pro program handle the wireless and that when my connection time went up from 500 packets:2 minutes to 900 packets:10 minutes. But post that, it agin hit a low.

In case there is a driver issue, can someone suggest the driver version that works for others with 2200BG and its download location?
Also, do I need to tweak any configuration anywhere? I am currently on default config-no securities etc - will do all that once the **** thing starts working!! -

Here is a question...do you have a wireless router? Not the DSL modem...a wireless router? I know that my mother's friend had this problem with her 2wire dsl modem which also had wireless. She had to get a new modem. Just a thought, I am thinking of other stuff that you can do.
Try power cycling the modem. (Just for the heck of it) Sometimes the wireless in finacky in the modem. -
those results look very odd to me. can you do an ipconfig/all please? go ahead and mask out the mac address for privacy concerns.
also, when i ask if you can hit any sites at all, i mean even before the "dropoff". or does it fail only after the "dropoff" ? -
Yup its a wireless router - SMC Barricade Plus 7004WFW connected to my DSL modem. How do u power cycle the modem. as of now, i have only tried resetting the thing whenever I lose connection.
Drumfu- I connect really well - its as good as my hardwire connection when I gowireless. I can hit all sites and work on all downloads - it just drops off after a bit as I explained.
ipconfigall result (am at work-so on hardwire-LAN)

All that is required to Power Cycle is unplug it
- I have to do a complete 'power cycle' once in a while and I find the best method for me is: (order here is not so important)
Trun Off Computers
Turn off Routers (I have two)
Turn off DSL Modem
Then (order here is IMPORTANT)
Power up Router that is plugged into DSL Modem - wait for ready light
Power up Wireless Router plugged into Router 1 - wait for ready light
Power up DSL Modem - wait for ready light
Turn on Computers -
can you redo the ipconfig/all at home after the connection drops, it won't help to have the info that's not pertinant to that specific situation.
(p.s., i edited out your physical (MAC) address info for security reasons for you) -
Thanks Drumfu.
Am at work so will have to send u all the ipconfig once I get home. apologies for being tardy in replying..!
Will also try the power cycle bit!
