My son has a T43p (Windows Xp) at college using G wifi. His connection speeds are not good but his suitemates are having decent connections. I went to Lenovo to look at some new models and asked a product engineer about the wifi problems. He said this model had a known design flaw that reduces wifi speeds. Apparently the radio antenna is on the inside of the magnesium roll cage on the display cover which causes it to interfere and reduce the frequency. He said in the later T series that moved the radio antenna to the outside of the magnesium roll cage. He recommended I purchase a wifi PCMCIA "g" adapter card and said I should she improved wifi performance.
School recommends a Cisco/Linksys card but in doing research there are many models by Linksys with minor model number changes.
Can anyone make some suggestions?

I'm a college student too and I use this card called a wi-fire. I think it's more useful than regular cisco or linksys cards on campus because it has a longer range, and my college's wifi isn't very good, so I can get a good signal from almost anywhere. The wi-fire's customer service is good too if you're worried about that sort of thing. Cisco and Linksys cards are reliable, but not so much on a college campus I think, where there is unreliable wifi. So I'd suggest the wifire from www.hfield.com

How securely does the mounting bracket clamp onto an LCD? Is it strong enough to move the laptop around without the Wi-Fire antenna falling off?

It is most of the time, but it is a little bit loose. It's also pretty easy to just put it flat on something nearby. It's not bad in my opinion.
