My 2 desktop computers are connected via ethernet and my laptop wireless.
So the problem its that when i turn on the laptop my 2 desktops disconnects from the internet everytime its turn on please help me!!
-
I assume that those computers are in good shape, so I think it must be duplicate IP address on the LAN.
-
yea the 2 of them are less than 3 years old and 1 its like 1 week new.
so i dont know what its really going on -
I assume that you connect your computers to single wireless router, and you model connect to that router in WAN port. Make sure your computers use DHCP. Check your network connection before you do anything else. For example, cable/DSL modem connects to WAN port on the router, and computers connect to LAN ports. The computers should recieve 192.168.x.x, and each of them should have unique IP address.

Are you using a router to connect with. If so you need to clone the IP address of the one that works and knocks all of the other off in to the router. This will make the router appear as your notebook.
-
Yes i do i use dlink 524 2 computer with ethernet and 1 laptop wireless and its a cable modem.
hELP me please -
Why don't you connect the notebook via the Ethernet cable and test what happens if three computers are on wired connection.

Cloning The MAC Address should fix your problem. My guess your ISP required you do a direct connect to run the setup program. Doing so registered the MAC address with the ISP. Cloning, is normally found in the Adv setup for the Isp/WAN in the router. Then reboot and test.
-
I don't see how cloning MAC would help- D Link 524 router is connected to a cable modem. Two computers are connected to the router via Ethernet and both work have access to the internet (which rules out need for MAC cloning) until laptop goes online via Wi-Fi at which point both wired computers lose internet access. It looks like a router issue to me.

I have seen this many time and it come down to the ISP MAC Filtering. When it sees the one it know the others are dropped.
Does not hurt anything to try.... -
so what you suggest me to do?
@all thank you all for helping me
-
You wrote one of your computers is brand new (a week or so) which one is it?
-
its a desktop (new) dell inspiron 580 the laptop its an acer 3860 and the other desktop its a dell dimension 2350
-
So what you're saying is that notebook used to work fine with one desktop connected via Ethernet cable but now that there are two of them it kicks them off the line as soon as the notebook goes online. I assume the notebook does go online with no problems having kicked out the other two?
Did you test what happens if you connect all three computers via Ethernet cable?
BTW this D-Link router is very poor but see if you have the most recent firmware here (mind your hardware revision). -
i did try to get the last firmware but when i was loading it it said it wanst a firmware file and yes the laptop and the desktop worked fine but when i got the second the desktop(the new one) it started doing this. i know its very poor im trying to get the NETGEAR 300n u think getting that router it will be good enough?
-
the laptop and the new desktop has different ip address and the other desktop its off now
-
Sorry but there's no Netgear 300N- what's the exact model number?
Are you sure you chose the right revision when you've downloaded firmware for D-Link? BTW- try to disable firewall on the router- I remember that D-Links had problems with firewalls aproximetly at the time DI-524 was launched.
What's your D-LINK's hardware revision? -
WNR2000 - Wireless-N 300 Router
well the firewall on the router appears to be disable
the version on the d link router its
Current Firmware Version: 3.23
Firmware Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2006 -
It looks like you have the latest firmware on the router.
Please do the test I've asked you to and connect and run all three computers via Ethernet cables simultaneously.
As for the Netgear it seems decent in terms of hardware- not really great but a solid mi-range router. What's your budget BTW? -
30-50 dollars
i dont have a spare Ethernet cable atm and the laptop its like 40 ft from the router -
I suppose moving a notebook is not really that hard
but since you don't have an Ethernet cable there's no point.
Last thing- if you have any type of wireless security- disable it for testing and see what happens then. -
if i disable the laptop firewall could work?
-
Firewall on the laptop has nothing to do with it- what I meant is that you log in to your router and disable any kind o0f wireless security (WEP, WPA) and test if the problem still persists.
-
http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/7124/networkw.png here is the settings
if u need more screen shots of any other settings let me know -
Change the security from WEP to none- just for testing off course- then see if the notebook still kicks the others out.
While you're at it could you post screenshots of DHCP and LAN tabs? -
i try to none security and still same thing.
what router you recommend me not going more than 60 dollars -
The one you mentioned is not bad, Asus WL-500G Premium costs $65 (it's not "n" router but it's very good) and Linksys E1000 can be bought for $60.
If you need 802.11n then Linksys E1000 should be your choice if not you may consider Asus as it has some interesting features. -
what about the screen shots of LAN and DHCP
-
Nothing unusual there- providing that IP addresses that you edited out are not the same- which is unlikely to impossible.
-
so the only option i got left its buy a new good router right?
-
Well i try to manage the cable and it worked it didnt shut the internet down.
Thanks so much for the help
