    Hey guys, this is probably a really dumb question, but why are my downloads slow? Let me explain. I recently switched my OS from my preinstalled Vista laptop to XP. In Vista I downloaded at around 750kb/s, now on XP I download at 350kb/s. Its kind of ridiculous. I'm wondering if its a driver or something? I have no idea about internet configurations or anything of the sort :eek: , so please help!

    Try reinstalling the ethernet/wlan drivers.

    Usually speeds are higher on vista then xp...

    If this happens to be the speed of a torrent (or any download with a high number of TCP/IP connections), apply the EvID4226 patch.

    Its an Intel based computer, I'm not at my home computer right now, but just shoot questions about it and I'll answer. Downloading slower is a nuisance. I usually don't download torrents, my concern is the download speed when downloading applications and such. Also, KrieGLoCK, I've never heard of download speeds being faster on Vista than XP (Maybe Vista is good for something after all?). I've always used wireless, (I don't like having a cord running around all over the tile, I might trip :eek: ) Any websites stating this problem?

    Start > Run > type: "regedit" without the quotes and then press enter.

    Navigate to HKLM/system/current control set/services/tcpip/parameters

    Right click in right pane, select: new > Dword value.

    Name it exactly: TcpWindowSize (case sensitive)

    Set value to: 256000 as a decimal. (change option on right from hex to decimal then type 256000 in box.)

    Reboot and enjoy. :D

    Hehe I figured it out myself :eek:

    I got Tune Up Utilities 2008 to optimise my download/surfing speeds and now i download at 700kb/s. Now that I think about it, thats what I did in Vista, except on Registry Mechanic. Problem solved! Thanks guys

    I recently installed xp on my hp dv6000 machine, dual booting with vista now. I noticed that my wireless was faster on vista. I tried this registry tweak and now both os's seem to be equal in speed. :)
