Home network upgrade

My apartment is currently undergoing several upgrades. One part included ethernet wiring in rooms and fiber internet at some point. There is three rooms with dual ethernet plus a walk in closet where I asked to add in another pair along with a power outlet.

My plan for now is three switches: one in the office, second in the closet where I'm planning to stuff my nas and wlan router and pretty much everything else. Third one goes in the electric box where the fiber comes and the ethernet cables meet.

8 ports should be enough, can be powered via PoE. Managed, preferably web. Fanless.

For now I've had my eyes mostly on these: HP 1820-8G Switch (J9979A)
Pricewise they go around 95-130e each depending on reseller. Lifetime warranty nice plus.

Three identical ones would be nice in case one breaks, I'll have spare one onsite right away.

Now the hot question: is there anything other with similar specs worth looking for? Preferably cheaper, which is why I'm writing this in the first place

What I have now: vdsl box on the office table, connected to the Asus RT-AC68u, in turn connected to about 10 years old d-link gigabit switch that surprisingly hasn't yet failed. Then a bunch of cables running all over the floor to another rooms... Well, basic setup has worked for last 15 years in here, I've upgraded hardware a few times.

 

Something I don't normally do is recommending D-Link but as you have noted their switches are surprisingly good and, as all things made by D-Link, cost less than comparable devices. Have you looked into their offer?

 

Back in the days when I was in retail business, pretty much everything D-Link that had brains in it was crap. DSL modems or wlan routers would flip over and die when you did server scan in GameSpy, once.

With those great experiences in mind.. no, I haven't check D-Link's current products yet

 

I've worked on some rock-solid D-Link DFL-800 Series routers/firewalls. I'm not talking about home routers here but D-Link makes good stuff and I've always liked even their cheaper home routers they made back in the day. Not sure about their new stuff though. I used to work in an all HP switch environment and those were very reliable too. Never a problem related to the switches. But again I'm talking about 15+ years ago. Can't comment on the newer stuff. I also have had good experiences with Netgear and Trendnet switches for smaller environments. Look at Trendnet, they make some nice layer 2 or unmanaged switches which also have lifetime warranties on some models.
