How to play music from laptop, wirelessly to stereo receiver?

Hello all,

I am attempting to control music via my laptop (via windows media player or Itunes), send it wirelessly to my stereo receiver and out to my wired speakers. Basically I want to be able to sit in my kitchen, and play, rewind, pause etc. my MP3s using my laptop mouse, and have the sound come out of my speakers in the family room.

I assume this is possible but what do i need to do? I have done some basic research and have heard of things like Apple Airport or Logitech Wireless Music System for PC.

Has anyone used these or are there other options out there?

I have searched the threads here and haven't found this answer. If there is one already, please let me know?

Bluetooth may be?

 

Actually the logitech system I reference above http://www.everythingusb.com/logitech_wireless_music_system_for_pc.html seems to utilize Bluetooth. THe description states... "Transmission method: Bluetooth 1.2 AD2P "

Also, it looks like Roku Soundbridge is another option. Anyone familiar with this?

 

There you go, just verify the distance ranges, bluetooth doesn't go very far.

 

What i do is have a computer with all my music on it hooked up to the stereo and wifi on it. Then i use remote desktop to control the desktop from my laptop and can be anywhere in the house and control the music

 

OK, but what do you actually use to get the music from computer to stereo? Directly wired? If so, that won't work since my computer is in the study and stereo across the house in the family room. I need to get it wirelessly from my laptop (or desktop) to my stereo.

What about using an FM transmitter like they do for MP3 players to pipe in to your car stereo? Connect that to your lappy and tune it in on the home stereo.

 

I use the Linksys Wireless-G Music Bridge for this. I have it connected to my audio system through the optical digital output, and it sounds great! Got mine from Geeks.com for about $30.

 

A PS3 and Windows Media Player combo works well.
