Hi
Yesterday I updated my intel wireless drivers. The problem is I have internet connection, but programs like steam or games like starcraft can't detect a connection. Huge problem as I really need steam to plain many games.
Can someone please help?
I already tried reinstalling windows and start of clean but that didn't help :s
Thanks in advance

Are they being blocked by your firewall?
-
No I've turned it off and all :s
It's really weird because the problem dissapeared a while ago and now all of a sudden it's back, really frustrating :s -
When you say you "have internet", what do you mean exactly? That you're connected to a wifi network? If so, does the Network Manager show that you have internet on the wifi network?
Also, can your browser access the internet? -
I mean i'm connected to our wifi network. It says I've got internet acces. And yes I can surf the internet, messenger connects too it's only things like steam and starcraft that refuse. Steam won't even start in offline mode :s
-
What type of connection do you use? Can you bypass a router to test if everything works?
It may be lack of uPnP and/or forwarded ports. -
I'm connected directly to our wireless modem. I have absolutely no idea what's going on. I've had this problem before and then I just turned the firewall on and off and rebooted and it was ok. But now that doesn't help. Also it just happend, out of nowhere these programs stopped being able to connect :s
Not sure what you really mean with type of connection :$ -
If you had a DSL modem or a cable modem and a wireless router connected to one of these you could bypass the router and connect straight to the modem.
However if you use a combo device- (modem and wireless router in one) you can't bypass a thing.
Check if these forwarding these ports will help. -
it's a combo device then
okay I'll try, it's just so weird, one minute it all works fine and a few minutes later it just stops
-
BTW what's the modem/router- brand and model number please.
If you come across uPnP (Universal Plug and Play) in modem settings- make sure it's ON.
That may make the whole port forwarding thing redundant. -
It's a belgacom bbox2-30e8
Haven't found any uPnP settings yet
Also wouldn't it be weird because they all worked with no problems and now suddenly I need to start port forwarding? I'm not really familiar with port forwarding btw. -
-
okay, I'll try this thank you!
Not helping
I'll reinstall windows like I did a previous time...
-
You wrote that you already did that and it didn't help.
Did you try just rolling back the driver (if the driver is an issue which I doubt)?
BTW- switch off the firewall on the router. -
It's not a driver issue since I it just happened without me even touching
Didn't even know this modem had a firewall...
Well the problem just dissapeared again... don't know what it was but I'll make sure to contact my provider and make sure to provide any information I find about the strange problem
either way, thank you downloads for your time
I have internet, but programs don't :s
