I just received my new Dell 1505 with vista home premium and dell 1390 mini wireless card. Despite of spending several hours with technical support I am unable to establish wireless connection. Network is recognized but connection is not established. Based upon browsing several discussion boards, it appears that Intel pro 3945 would have been a better choice. How difficult is it to open the laptop to replace the dell card with Intel card? Secondly, is it better to purchase external expresscard to communicate with my verizon wireless dsl connection? If so, what is a good choice for external expresscard? Thanks in advance!![]()

Metamorphical Good computer user
What advice did Dell give you on how to get the laptop and the router to talk? Maybe there isn't something the wonderful people at Dell missed.

(1) Installing a new driver
(2) Powering down laptop, modem and router
(3) Pinging router
(4) Trying to blame Netgear/Westell/Verizon
My Netgear MR814 works fine with MA101 card on other dell laptop and ethernet on HP desktop. Do I need to tweak any settings on Netgear router so that it can communicate with dell 1390 card? -
you may have Access control turned on, thus not allowing your dell to connect, try turning off the access control, or allowing your dells MAC address...

recoil,
What if I am unable to access my router home page due to forgotten user id and password? How can I reset them? Last evening I tried accessing the web page but got error 404! -

Press and hold the reset button for 10 sec, this should reset it back to factory.

or if you havent even changed the user and pass, the defaults will be located on the router itself...

Blue68f100 and Recoil,
Thanks for your advice. After upgrading and resetting the router software, it connected with the dell 1390 wireless cardwithout any problem. Even though prior router settings were consistent, it just needed a kick in the butt to work properly. -
i too am having a similar problem, my access point is a westell wirespeed, not sure if that is similar to his netgear. either way i cannot connect to it. drivers are new and this is the only laptop that will not connect to it. i tried a hard reset on the router, but it still will not connect.
