I have TP-Link WR941ND router configured to WPA2-AES-PSK and my notebook connects to router at only 130 mbps (LG R500 U.CP21R1 - two antenas at left and one at right corner of lid).
What must i do with my wireless to connect at 300 mbps?
TP-Link WR941ND official information
I heard that router need to broadcast SSID at 5 Ghz for Intel 4965AGN to connect at 300 mbps?
-
does your router transmit at 802.11g or n?
-
if you would be not so lazy - you could go to the link provided in first post - it is MIMO 802.11n Router!
-
Be a little more polite please
-
It has nothing to do with SSID broadcasting, it's just the feature of a 5GHz N router that will be able to match your N nic and establish a 300Mbps link, as long as you are within the suitable range, and don't dear call me names because monkeys don't have good character and are not that polite like Carby, and I might just through s...... at you.

So, if i will use this http://www.tp-link.com/products/product_des.asp?id=138 for my laptop i will be able to connect at 300mbps at 2.4 ghz?
-
That's correct, however keep this in mind, a 802.11n router working in the 2.4GHz frequecny band doesn't have many channels, and it may work at 40MHz bandwidth to support the 300MHz, but as soon as it senses another 802.11n around it will switch to 20MHz limiting the speed to 150Mbps. Now a 5GHz router has more channels to workl with and will support the 300Mbps all the tiime, but you will have to get a 5GHz N nic.
-
but that is not guarantee that it will switch to 150 mbps? of course i can limit signal strength so my signal will not go further my house
-
not all routers actually comply w/ that part of the N protocol, so don't worry about it.
as stated, w/ that card you currently have, you will be limited to 130mbps. Thats no biggie unless you transfer large files over your network, or have gaming parities. It in no way increases your actual internet speed.
To get 300mbps, your best bet is to always use matching components from the same manufacturer-- Dlink card--Dlink router.
people are just trying to help you-- don't insult them!! You could have just as easily cut and pasted your router information in the post. -
You'll get your 150Mbps most of the time if you are within a reasonable distance from the router, that's my experience.

question two: i want to use some third party firmware for my router. googled - can't find anything. i found one screenshot of MSI router - my panel just logo changed to MSI insted of TP-Link... my router uses atheros chip (i think).
-
Why would you like to use a firmware from another vendor?
-
well, i like tp-link in original, but somethings like DD-WRT firmware for my router would blow my head and upgrade router features.
p.s: i like open source, when i can look through source code, modify some things etc
-
Yes, open source is the best when you know how to work with, many routers are Linux compatible so I guess you can always write your own scripts. I personally prefer not to mess with it, I just lopk for the firmware update from the router vendor regardless the chipset used.
-
well, i study computers 14 years for now, i know what i am doing.
so, do you know some alternate firmware for WR941ND or for WR642G?
probably you can unpack this firmware to original state (i.e vmlinuz.bin and initrd)?

Nope, I don't know any, I'm not very software savvy, have you approached tp-link to get their input about the possible firmware's cource you can use?
-
yes, i asked them. looks like my tp-link support is too lazy to answer
-
Hahahaha, is always the same thing, they support you 24/7 until you buy the product, after that it falls to 5' a week
-
under "they" you meant tp-link or anyone else?
-
tp-link in this case, but all the vendors are somehow similar, I'll buy my next lap from powernotebooks.com, they have very good creditations, we'll see then.

any new datails on topic?
or how to unlock intel 4965agn to connect at 300mbps using only 2.4 ghz? or how to connect it to 802.11 b networks? -
I was counting on your to find that data
