Has anyone noticed connectivity issues with this card when using WEP? I have a new Latitude E6500 with this card, win xp, a FIOS connection and am using the new Verizon Westell router.
I had major issues when configured for WEP (internet stopped working, although I could still ping and use email) and a reboot would usually result in an inability to grab an IP address.
When I changed to WPA2, these problems appear to have gone away. I am using the latest drivers from the Dell site. Any insights would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Harvey

wpa2 from my experience with these is recc. wep does not work all the time properly with the 5300's as was the case with the 4965's

Thanks. I did a little more research and found a fair number of posts indicating what you stated - the 5300 driver has a problem with WEP and that WPA2 is the way to go. One poster stated that the problem was not the driver but the Intel ProSet utility - I don't think this is the case since I had problems even when running under the win xp WZC utility.
FWIW, I also have a laptop with the Intel 4965 card and did not have any problems with the WEP configuration.

I also experienced this--the computer would actually connect to the router, but I would only have local access--no internet.

but could you still get online even though it said local? could be the way the network is setup also gerry. i have seen that before
-
No, I could not access the Internet even though it was connected "locally"
Frankly, I am not even sure it was connected locally--only that it said local. I never tried to connect to a local shared drive or printer since I spent about 32 seconds on it.
After logging in I realized the router was set up for WEP and I changed it to WPA because there was no reason for it to be WEP anyway. It just stuck in my head that it did not connect in WEP--I can set it back and check if you're really interested -
I had the same problem. Uninstalled Intel ProSet and it no longer had trouble with WEP.

That's interesting. I did not uninstall the Intel Proset, I just let windows WZC control the management - I still had the problem. Maybe you actually have to uninstall it as you did. Anyway, I was overdue in getting away from WEP.
Thanks,
Harvey
