Okay, so I have the Intel Wi-Fi w/ Dell Bluetooth in the E1505. I used the Intel profile manager on my M140, and plan on still using it on my E1505. However, I'm am running into an issue.
It won't automatically connect to any of my profiles, and when I tell it to connect I get an error saying "Problem applying profile!"
I then click connect 6+ times, until it finally applied perfectly fine. The only network I have used since I got this new laptop is WPA2 protected, but the password is fine (and like I said it connects after multiple attempts).
Was wondering if anyone has experienced this problem before, so I can hopefully resolve this issue.

Anyone? Please?

Perhaps a router firmware/card driver update will help. Sometimes the driver from Intel's site works better.
-
It should be the exact same driver, but I'll uninstall and install one downloaded from Intel.
And it's not the router, it has the latest firmware updates, and I have 2 other wireless computers preforming normally.
In addition, I took it to another place today and tried to connect to an ad-hoc, same problem. -
don't dl from intel; dl from dell's site
-
I have seen situations where downloading the driver from Intel fixes a problem. Not sure in this particular case. Dell may modify the the driver.
-
Okay, I just installed the updated driver and program from Intel, and the problem still exists...
Faulty card, maybe? -
So, I tried it with the Windows Tool, and it worked fine. Anyone else have problem with the 3945 PROwireless software?
I called Dell, but were not willing to help me because it was a software issue and not a hardware. -
If it worked with the windows tool then I'll assume you've already installed this hot fix...

Are the other wireless cards your using and work for you using this same Intel software, cards and drivers?
If not it may be in the software, WPA2 is kind of new, often with changes like this some features, even listed as being compliant don't always work as intended, I've run into simular authentication problems in troubleshooting wireless networks before. Not saying that applies to you, but mentioning it so your aware of it as a possibility.
Just use the Windows software and then try again when the next update gets released for the other software. It's probably not a common problem people are running into yet because many are likely still using WPA-PSK instead of the newer WPA2. -
try updating your drivers -
In the midst of troubleshooting, I took out my mini card and reseated it, and now everything works fine...

I have similar problem with E1505 w/Intel Pro 3945ABG
I got my E1505 yesterday.
Once I set up WiFI, it seemed working alright when I tried it in the dining room. After a while, I brought it to my study, where my desktop and wireless router located, and uninstalled some junk that came with it and install a couple of softwares I use.
I don't remember exactly when, but it started lost its connection, and couln't located any wireless signal. If I reboot my notebook, it connects without problem, but about 5-10 minute later, it lost connection again and I cannot find any signal unless I reboot notebook again.
I will try to update driver and the firmware of my D-link router tonight.
I will also keep eye on this tread if there are any useful info.
Thanks all. -
I just got my Dell E1505 a week ago. I also bought a USR Maxg wireless router. I experienced the same error message "Problem Applying Profile!" when I tried to connect.
BTW: Intel Pro/Wireless 3945
Win XP Pro
1GB Ram
2Ghz dual core

I discovered that it would connect if I used WEP, but not if I used WPA2, and I tried ALL available configurations of WPA2.
===
I did not try to reseat the card as you suggested. I just downloaded the windows WPA2 update listed in post #9 (thank you by the way)
It connected with no problems after that - using the windows wireless manager. Personal WPA2, and my key is...

Oh by the way, I have shorts on right now, and it's a little warm on the legs. So, curious me puts down the notebook and fetches the Raytek$100 MT6 laser thermometer out of the garage. I let it sit on the desk for 10 more minutes and then
I tested the screen...max temp = 83F.
I tested the keyboard...max temp = 93F.
I tested the frame all the way around the keyboard....it was hottest right under the power light on the right side....95F.
And then I lifted it up and tested the whole bottom...it ranged from 86F to 104F. The 104F was right where the cooling heatsink was (under the ESC key). Not too bad!

Okay, so I actually did get this problem resolved with the PROSet/Wireless software saying "Problem Applying Profile!" when I tried to connect.
- In CONTROL PANEL select "Add Or Remove Programs."
- Then find the Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software
- Select the CHANGE/REMOVE button
- Then click on the "Repair" option and then press NEXT.
I was able to use the PROSet software to connect after that. - In CONTROL PANEL select "Add Or Remove Programs."

I am using an Asus V6J and had been using an 802.11b microsoft router with WEP and no problem
recently changed to the Netgear WGT624 super g router and using WPA - Personal (TKIP) security adn that was working at g speeds 54mbps with the integrated intel pro a/b/g card
didn't realize that the Asus v6j doesn't have a pc card slot type II, only an express card slot so i started installing the software for the netgear wg511T super g adapter.
then i realized that type card wont fit in the express card slot and then after that i noticed the connection wouldn't work anymore saying
"Problem applying Profile!"
I uninstalled the adapter card software and it still woldnt' work. tried looking at a bunch of settings and searching the error and couldn't find anything to fix and even posted on other threads here until i found this one.
Thanks Blue Maru, your trick worked so i didnt have to dl that ms software update or whatever was posted here.
the repair seems to reinstall needed stuff. i just hope i didn't mess anything else up looking at a lot of settings on the router and on my laptop. i hate when you run into a problem and start looking for all these complex solutions only to find there is a quick fix.
only thing i can think is that installing the super g pc card slot type ii adapter software that it disabled something from the intel pro wireless and the repaird fixed it
Now my question is, what adapter can i get that will fit in the ASus v6j 26pin ExpressCard/34mm54mm card slot and work with the NetGear (model mentioned above) super g router so i can get 108mbps.
might have to get a diff super g router that has a super g express card option as the netgear only seems to have the pcmcia slot type II card or usb and i dont want to have usb stick out and use up one of 4 precious usb.
Otherwise i should just get a regular g router for now if i like the netgear.
what really sucks is that I got the super g adapter card for free but now have no use for it. and I may be past my return/exchange date for the super g router, so Ideally i'd like to just keep that and get a super g express card adapter that will work with the netgear super g router, that i can get in exchange for the pc card one somehow.

Thanks for the help. I had this problem and doing the repair through add/remove programs finally resolved the problem. Dell and Intel websites didn't help at all.
Thanks again. -
IM having the same problem with my brand new vostro. one minute its fixed, the next it Just drops out..
I dunno what to do..
downloading that hotfix now.
*edit
Well the Hotfix made little difference so far, the only thing that seems to work is rebooting..
its kind of frustrating.
It seems intermittent.
sometimes the (wifi) light goes off and the card Just dies on me, then when i reboot it turns back on.
this Vostro is brand new too.. if the problem persists I may see if Dell support can help me. -
I had the opposite experience with the 'repair' command. I tried it twice and got the same result each time. Not only did it not fix the problem, it made it worse, by deactivating my wireless networks access list and found no networks when I asked for a scan.
It was actually a different sequence under the Change/Remove; Program Maintenance/Modify path.
I had to initialize the Pre-Connect logon from off to on. After that, I never experience the loss of connection that made me request the connection, which was leading to the 'Problem Applying Profile'. It appears that the password request after my screen saver lockout was also a part of this prior sequence and is unaffected after screensaver and login.
I'm not saying what is right or wrong, but after seeing so many things that did and did not work for so many people, it appears that we're all experiencing the effect of our slightly different configs, an inevitable fact of life in the the WINTEL world. -
That link to the Intel CS-022793 was spot-on for me. Dell Vostro 1500, WinXP, brand new, updated MS patches, Netgear WGR614v6. Good show. Thanks.
And then it reverted back to failure after one success. Go figure.

I have Dell Vostro 1500 with Intel 4965AGN and I have the same problem sometimes when laptop works on AC power and almost everytime when laptop works on batery. But I found, that if I boot laptop with WiFi Catcher switch in OFF position and turning ON only after logon to windows, everything is OK.

this problem happened to me before at a friend's house so i ignored it, but since it's happened to me at my own house with a router that had previously worked great. i used the repair option and midway through the repair the wireless has connected! i'll post again if it cuts out on me...
