Why aren't they making a 3x3:3 ac card?
802.11ad is still really far off.. -
802.11ad is WiGig (60Ghz - short range, line of sight, high throughput), and not really a replacement for ac.

The Intel AC-8260NGW is a 3x3 802.11ac wireless card and should be released together with the Intel Skylark platform in mid 2015 unless it's delayed due to too many Broadwell and Haswell parts unsold in the distribution channels.This type of delay happened a few times in the past even though the new parts were ready to go..

Probably m2 only? But using those m2 to mpcie adapter may work?

Definitely M.2 only. And yes, any adapter that will fit it physically will work since M.2 and mpcie are electrically compatible.

I've tried M.2 cards in an adapter and found that it's better to use the mini pciee card for the better performance.
Also you will need different antenna connectors(MHF4) to fit on the M.2 cards.
This new Intel tri band card is 30mm wide compared to about 21.5 mm for an Intel AC-7260NGW and AC-7265NGW.
The tri band 30mm x 30mm probably won't fit because of the width into the space available in most current notebooks that have M.2 wireless cards. -
now that should be a nice upgrade this summer/fall
as long as one has three internal antennas available to use

The only thing I can think of would be a backup to the NAS, yet plugging one CAT/USB3/eSATA cable didn't seem that much of an effort before ... perhaps this is just one more step in a giant plot to accomplish Utopia ... or somesuch. Written in 1909 ( !!!):

Why wireless gigabit? Why 4k LCD's? Why quad core CPU's? Why smartphones? Why anything?
I am looking forward to it personally. I do store most of my stuff on my home server, frequently downloading or uploading 1-3GB files. I'd rather not stay tethered for that.downloads and WhatsThePoint like this. -

You can order a kit from dell for ad i think. But there is so little supported device, you probably stuck with dell's wigig dock.

I was referring to Intel AC-8260NGW. If i can replace my 7260 with this and it is a perfect fit, adding an extra antenna should not be hard. Hoping to take advantage when it is available.
