Hi friends,
I live in Brooklyn,NY. i have time warner internet serive with 10Mbps DL and 512Kbps UL. but i never get 10Mbps DL. Most i get is about 1 Mbps. i have called their help line but no improvement. their technician came but failed instaed said that 10Mbps means i can get max speed of 10Mbps ( not 10Mbps at all the time ) but i think atleast i should get 5 or 6 Mbps all the time. what do you people think? what is your experience with your ISP or with Time Warner incase your ISP is time warner. there service is worst. Any suggestion to improve my internet speed??

Mr._Kubelwagen More machine now than man
Yeah, do that. The server you're downloading from may not be able to support 10 Mb/sec. (1.25 megabytes/sec). -
I am job site right now. but i'll post the results in evening. however i have tested speed using speed test from ur mentioned website and some other websites too. and all are giving the same results. 1 to 1.5Mbps

If your running XP try cablenut optimizer, get the aux pack for more preset configs.
Other wise I would ask for a refund. Cable companies are like party lines the more on line the slower it gets. It's also possiable that they do not have your account set properly too. Now some have started restricting speed after so many downloaded bytes over a 30 day period. -

The companies do not have to garrenty the 10mpbs speed because they say that is varies.
For example, I have 1.5mbps DLS and do not have the option to go to 7mbps but when I called Quest they result was that there would only be s slight increase in download, same upload, same ping. So for me its not worth it and it is the same case in many places. -
i even tried a server in Alaska and still got around 7000 kb/s and an even higher upload.

ask to see if you can get swapped onto a newer fiberoptics line.

Far as off as he is, it's false advertisement, the attorney general in your state may be able to help. You have to get a min of 80% during non peak times, and atleast 50% during peak.
I had comcast here for a while switched over to FIOS before timewarner (road runner) took over and never looked back. It blows cable away with the lowest speed option. -
ADSL 10mbps/320kbps
I had a cable before - 6mbps/320kbps - with another ISP and I used to get better results..
Anyway....
I'm pretty sure it's your ISP's fault. I had a similar problem with my current ISP, so I called them. They sent me a tech-guy who said it's my router's fault(said something about bad config) so he exchanged it with a new one. -

I'm sure the T1 wireless connection would do much better than my Comcast here. Cool speedtest site though, going to mess around with that more often. -

On cable systems you are limited to a max of 3 spliters. If your at the end of the chain you will have problems, too. My neighbor had that problem after relocating the modem. Then again if you have a bad connection resulting in noise will lower your speed too.
Verizon's FIOS offers a 25/5mbps service to residential clients, but I have been happy with the basic 5/2mbps service. -
