Hey guys, I'm having some trouble with internet explorer on my desktop.
The desktop runs at 3.0GHz and had 2GB of RAM, so speed shouldn't be a concern, but IE runs very very slowly. I'm currently using cable, so the cable speed is not an issue (my laptop going through the same router runs faster).
Basically, I can run IE, but after I type in an address, it usually takes 20 seconds for the thing to respond. The page just turns white for 20 seconds, and if I try to close it, I get the "End Task" pop up window. I tried just opening 1 IE window (with no other program running), and it still acts like that.
I scanned my system with AVG, Kaspersky, McAfee, and some other anti virus/spyware programs, and nothing showed up. Every other program (including Firefox) runs at regular speed.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

1. This should be moved to another subject forum
2. Wait a little longer and it may come up -
Since you mentioned other browser run normally, we can assume it's a program-specific program... I'd suggest checking Windows Update for a patch. If you do not find such a patch, try reinstalling it.
Also, as Crimsonman suggests, you would get more feedback in the Windows Software board.

Sound like your MTU is set to large, need to be set around 1492. There is a program called cablenut. Download it and it's extra pack. Then select the setup this best soots you speed. Should correct the problem.

You might also have your LAN settings funny, such as having IE searching for a proxy rather than a direct connection to the Internet.
Go to Tools->Internet Options->Connections tab->LAN Settings button and make sure everything is unchecked. -
Or, since Firefox works fine, you could just use that.

This would be the ultimate advice.
It's logical, though.
IE = problem. Remove IE.

i wish i could completely get rid of IE, but there are certain websites that require it
.
as for the IE problem, nothing fixes PC problems better than the universal fix, a fresh reinstall of windows

You may also try resetting the stack. You will have to search MS Knowledge base on how to do that.

Luckily, a Firefox extension called IE Tab can use the IE rendering engine within Firefox. I'm not sure if it can do this without IE installed, though.

Here is a link for reseting the stack http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
Also you may want to try flushing the dns using this cmd "ipconfig /flushdns" -
