I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this thread, if not, please move it, thanks.
Ok, after I'm on the internet for a while (time seems to vary), eventually I get an invalid URL or some authentication warning and I can't really use the site anymore. To cure this problem I close my browser, go into command prompt and type ipconfig /flushdns, after this I can go back to the site and use it again. This is very annoying and I would like some help (if possible) to solve it permanently.
Thanks.

Does this only happen with NBR? Also what OS are you running & which browser?
-
I have the problem with every site that I have to log into. I am running windows 7 and using Firefox. However, it does it with Chrome and IE as well.
-
was the flushdns command your idea or did somebody/some site recommend that as a quick fix?
-
I tried looking for a solution online and it was 1 out of the 2 temporary solutions that people were posting. If I restart my computer, that also works temporarily.
-
Have you tried testing your system with another ISP such as a friends home or Free WIFI from a starbucks for instance? Also have you made any custom settings on your router?
-
I haven't used my laptop much outside of my own home, but I'll be using it tomorrow at school and I can bring it to my parents house tonight and see if I have the problem. I used the automatic configuration option when I set my router up and it's a Linksys WRT160N V3 if that matters. I'm not sure if it is tied to the problem or not, but I also have wireless connection problems at my place (sometimes it will connect wireless and other times I have to connect it directly to my router), I haven't experienced connection problems anywhere else.
-
does hardwiring your laptop to the router resolve the issue every time? or have there been times when you're unable to connect either way? you say you used the automatic configuration option when setting up the router, which i take to mean that you installed the linksys software, so is your wireless network password protected? are there any other specific options you recall enabling or setting up?
-
Sorry it took me so long to reply. I was trying to duplicate the problem at my parents or at school, it appears to only happen at my house. Hardwiring doesn't solve the problem, I just have to hardwire my laptop often because it looses its connection quite often at my house. Yes, I do believe the network is password protected. I don't recall selecting any other options. I have a desktop in the other room that has the same problem and is hardwired to the router.

Sevenstarsfall, What ISP are you using at home, and have you looked at the logs associated with the router? You will need to login to the router to see them. Have you reset the router, or power cycled it?
-
I have Comcast and I've both reset and power cycled the router. I went into my router, but didn't see the logs you're talking about, what should I be looking for?
-
If no one has a better idea, you may want to try contacting comcast via telephone. You have done a good job narrowing down the issue. You could also try posting or searching here Comcast Help and Support Forums - Comcast Help and Support Forums

agreed. i think it's pretty clear that something's not configured properly with the router, and this...
...is pretty unusual. if you haven't found these resources already, here's a common issue knowledge base for linksys routers and here's a general guide specific to your router should you choose to update firmware or something like that. and actually, in reading this (scroll down to 'power outage') i think maybe your best bet short of calling comcast is to flash the router's firmware. -
I gave up trying to figure it out and bought a Belkin N450 dual-band router, I've had zero problems since. Thanks for everyone's help.
-
a belkin?! what'd you do with the old router?
-
It will be going in the trash.
-
PM me if you're interested in selling it.
