When I don't shut down Windows, every 2-3 days lose internet connection. I need to reboot my computer to fix the problem.
I know it is Windows problem because when I hard wire my computer to the modem, I have the same problem.
I have had this problem for about 6 months trying to find a solution to no avail, so I am about to re install Windows. I want to try one more fix.
One thing I notice is, for a few minutes before I lose the connection, my internet speed noticeably increases. I do not know why this is, but when I see this increase, I know I am going to lose the connection soon.
This is a shot in the dark, but I am wondering if the high speed might be crashing the Windows internet connection.
Is there a way to throttle my connection?

You could wither throttle download/upload speeds on individual apps (although not all of them give you this option) or use a 3rd party firmware like Gargoyle that allows you to throttle speed to any internal IP.
-
if you have adsl or cable yes it's possible to throttle internet speed but it's likely illegal to do it.

Illegal? LOL. I think you mean de-throttle, as in hacking your modem firmware to uncap subscriber speeds. This is the opposite that the OP wants.
JWBlue, have you checked event viewer (eventvwr.msc) for clues? If you look on your modem/router does it have a log? -
Not illegal no, but surely annoying for the Internet provider, got a call last week for throttling too much and I should watch out..... odd haha, like I care
-
Ahh- it begs the question do we really mean the same by thottling?

This is throtting on the opposite end of the connection, OP is talking about throttling his own connection. You are being throttled by your ISP for what they consider to be "data limits". -
yes it is illegal in most countries. please don't make false legal claims if you don't known what you are talking about. it's missleading and might confuse other members.
actually in the most extreme situations it can even be considered a serious fraud that can be sentenced with some jail time.
so be carefull about what you say. -
It's definitely not illegal. Throttling you own connection is in essence not using its full potential (speed). It doesn't matter if you set max uplink/downlink speed on a router or set your download manager not to exceed certain speed when downloading. Even forcing an ADSL modem to sync at a lower rate (which can be done on Broadcom based units) is not illegal.
Not using all the speed your connection offers is like not using a fifth gear in your car. -

You seem to be confused about the definition of throttling. What you seem to be referencing as "illegal" is uncapping. -
I haven't used these in some time, but NetLimiter - The Ultimate Bandwidth Shaper and Bandwidth management and traffic shaping software for Windows seem to fit your description. Also, a router such as the Asus RT-n66u has built-in QOS options that allow you to strangle your connection by MAC, IP, protocol, etc.
