Hi, I have a desktop(xp) a laptop which i'll call A (Vista) and another laptop B (XP). Recently formatted the desktop and installed XP. Before the format i had a shared folder with a password set through sharing permissions. Both A & B could connect to it with no issues. After the format, only A connects to it & B doesn't anymore. Whenever i try to connect it says "Access is denied". Just for the sake of trial, i set the Sharing and the Security permissions to "Everyone"..Laptop B was then able to connect. I can't leave the permissions like this because i don't want other people on the internet accessing my private files. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Ramyk

If I'm not mistaken, Everyone means everyone on the network, not everyone on the internet, so if you're talking about a home network that shouldn't be a problem

no it's a huge network. a whole compound full of people lol

I still haven't found a solution....Any ideas?

Just to clarify...having the permissions set to allow the "everyone" user group access permissions wouldn't allow "everyone" on the Internet such as myself to see your shared files. Just those users and devices connected to "your" network, or the network you are on.
Anyway, if you want laptop B to connect w/ out having the "everyone" user group enabled then you're next best bet is to create an identical user account on the desktop machine that is on laptop B. So, if you have a user account named "johndoe" on laptop B, create that same user account on the desktop machine, add it to the shared folder and assign the proper permissions to it.
I know it's weird and frustrating that laptop A can connect fine but I really can't tell you why it's like this. I haven't yet figured out what Microsoft's problem is. -
Thanks for the reply, i know that isn't the case but my network's huge and i don't want everyone being able to see my personal data. thanks alot for the suggestion i'll give it a go and tell if it works
EDIT: it worked thanks alot man
