And it ain`t doing jack.
I`ve done manual connecting, setup assistant ,nothing , it just won`t connect to the PPPoE network.
My ISP provided me with a password and username, I tried to connect in all possible ways, but it won`t log on to the internet.
I made sure I used same username and pass when manually connecting via the cable on the laptop, but the router won`t connect the same way...
I`ve done all steps in the manual, but still NOTHING. I`m starting to get pissed off because I spent 30$ for nothin![]()
I realise that in the pic the router is not connected to any network, before anyone asks, so the pic is not representative, it`s just to show the model ...

Anybody, help?
-
if you have the router making the connection, did you set up the modem in bridge mode?
-
I dont have a modem, its just an ethernet cable i usually connected straight to my lan card. So i just added an intermediary wireless routher to be able to use all my 3 laptops at one with net...
-
PPoE is usually associated with DSL connections. DSL are usually delivered over the internet via normal telephone wires. The telephone wire comes in to a DSL modem, then you connect a computer to the modem with a cat5 or 6 cable.
The DSL modem will usually handle the connection, or you put it in bridge modem and have the computer (or router) handle the authentication.
So.
Who is your ISP?
Have you ever been connected before?
What equipment was used before.
List model numbers -
Ok, the simplest way I can describe this...
I have always been connected to this network (it's called RDS, so it won`t help you at all, being from my country...) via the ethernet cable..
Through the contract i have received a username and password and I have been set up a PPPoE network , they`ve put a shortcut on desktop and everytime I need the net, I have to log on.
They probably have a modem somewhere, I figure, but to my appartment , they just linked an ethernet cable...standard network cable . So I don`t get why I just can`t use the router instead of the laptop, and feed the internet to the router instead of the laptop, and then from the router to create a wireless net...
So I`ve done exactly the same thing with the router, but it will not connect to the internet. The wireless is working and all, but the router will not supply the net connection...
And for the last 2 days, for some reason , i get limited connectivity on the thing. I reset it a few times, unplugged it and plugged it back after 30 seconds, nothing...
Now everytime I connect to the router I get limited connectivity and can`t change any settings. It`s driving me nuts
So the heck can I reset it , everything, without being able to access the resources of the router?
The reset button doesn`t do that... -
Ok, how the heck can I restore the factory settings without being able to access the resources? I can`t use the thing at all now
-
Somebody please help before I smash the damn thing, I get "limited connectivity" no matter how I connect to it , wireless or with cable...
I don`t get it, it just cannot assign network address, so how can I erase all settings from it and get back to the beginning ? -
So, just an ethernet cable coming from the wall....no box within your apartment.
You can still connect with just the wire into the laptop, or no?
I am wondering--MAC filtering?
Most routers allow you to clone or imput the mac filter into them.
Do an
ipconfig /all
on your laptop (i know it is not connected).
You should see
PHYSICAL ADDRESS in the following configuration
00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
Write those numbers down
Open your router, look for a setting like MAC Address.
Put those numbers in there
Set up your router for PPPoE and put in your log on info
Power off the router (not reset)
Plug it in to the ethernet cable. Plug the power.
Set up your laptop for a LAN connection, not a PPPoE connection (connect as if you are connecting via LAN) -
But I can`t access the router because it seems to be locked via a password or something, since I get limited connectivity no matter what
Therefore i can`t change its MAC address -
I sent Belkin a question, but they never answered back. Come on, nobody knows how to restore it to factory settings without being able to access the resource page?
-
Have you put the model number of this thing in here....anywhere? If so, I am missing it. The picture does not include a model number...
I mean, come on, if you want specific answers, you give specific information. My car won't start. Can you tell me why?
Without model numbers you get general information.
Somewhere there is a small button or hole which you can put a paperclip in, hold it for 10 seconds, and the router will reset.
If you want more, give a model number or send me a plane ticket and I will come set it up for you, but if you want help you have to help people to help you -
I`ve talked to Belkin support and the conclusion is that the DHCP is faulty, since the wireless did not work on 5 different computers, neither wired or wireless...
I`ll take it back tomorrow and see what can be done... -
Now its finally working

It sounds like you need to clone your MAC address (from pc) into the router. What most ISP do is log the MAC address of the pc that did the initial setup connection. There should be an option for this, in the PPPoE setup or advanced settings. This way they have 2 way to control who has access to their networks.
So do a reset back to factory on the router. Unplug the DSL modem for a min of 3 min. This will make sure the connection is cleared.
Connect the dsl modem to the dsl line.
Connect the router wan port to the eithernet port on the dsl modem.
Connect your pc to Lan port 1 on the router.
Power up the dsl modem. wait till it settles down. ~1 min
Power up the router.
Once it finished all of the self check power up your pc.
Connect to the routers admin page.
Do the setup using your ID and PW
In the advanced section there should be an option to clone a MAC address. If not there is a section where you can tell it what MAC address to use.
Save the settings.
You should now have a internet connection.
If the modem had both eithernet and USB ports you can only use 1. If both are connected it will not work.
fyi, The last Belking products I setup (3yrs ago) were junk. most failed in less than 1mo. 1 did not work at all out of the box. So I do not buy or recommend Belkin to anyone who wants a stable trouble free connection. -
Well, the DHCP was indeed faulty, now they fixed it and it works perfectly
-
Wow none of this had anything to do with MAC addresses. Clearly other clients could get online with an Ethernet connection if he tried. His router was more then likely getting a 169.x.x.x IP address and couldn't establish a DHCP server correctly..
This is what happens when you use belkin.
Just got my Belkin wireless router
