All,
I have been having issues with my LAN... when I run a speedtest, ir speakeasy or something similar about halfway through the test it bogs down. Nex is the upload test, it takes FOREVER to even start this test and when it does start it will only upload at .065 per second... I have high speed internet. I thought maybe it was the hardware, so I took out my SSD and put the original HDD in and it runs perfect. download is smooth, upoad is smooth and at 11 MBPS. So, I figure its a driver issues... I have uninstalled and reinstalled the LAN driver several times yet I am still having the same issue. I am pretty sure the main issue is when I did the clean install, i accidently installed the "Bigfoot" crap from the dell website and I had major issues.... I thought I got all of the stuff from that out, but maybe not? How do I know?
Interesting note, iswhen I am not plugged into the LAN and running wireless, the issues is not bad at all.
OK, I did a complete re-install of Windows..... this seemed to have cured the issue, download was at 50 and upload at 7-10. However, once the windows updates finished last night, it came back??? Download speeds were ok, but upload was back below 1. What is curious is this only happens when I am plugged in. When I unplug, my download and upload speeds are about normal. I am using the Intel Ultimate N 6300. Any ideas, as I am out.

I would suspect the Windows install, not the SSD vs. the HDD.
Given install2, I would be suspicious of unecessary Windows Updates for devices.
I would try again... install Windows (select 'ask me later' on Windows updates), and then any OEM specified device drivers in 'natural order' which goes something like this:
chipset
oem system
card slot
storage
audio
video (integrated first, then discrete)
chipset special
lan
security
wlan/wpan/wwan
input
oem special
modem
active management
oem system managers
Then run Windows Update and install device drivers ONLY, one at a time, IF you believe them to be better than what is already installed and working in Device Manager (hide any you don't want). Then finish up with the remaining Windows Updates.
Test your connection and proceed to install security apps and remainder.

OK, I think I have it figured out somewhat.... I did another clean install and everything works fine. I re-installed my Avast and the lag came back, my upload speed goes from 7-10 mbps to .16 or so. I uninstalled Avast and everything was back to normal. I thought I had already ruled this out as I shut avast down before for a test, but it had no effect.

Running two anti virus programs at one time might be your problem I you sure that windows defender is not running at the same time.

I just installed the free version of the Antivirus and its fine. When I upgrade to the full version is when I run into the issue. I have turned Windows Defender off.

Are you using the full Avast suite with firewall? I know from experience that if you set your firewall settings too high it can slow your connection speed. The reason is the firewall has to process all information going in and out of your computer to monitor for spyware, virus, attacks, etc.
Personally I no longer use a software firewall on my computer. I make sure that I keep my virus software up to date and actively monitoring my system and I have the router handle the firewall protection. To date I have not had any security issues.
Take care,

Thanks! I just decided to switch to the free MSE, installed it and it works perfect. Even with the Avast free antivirus, it was slowing my upload speeds, I think the issue is fixed now!
