Hi,
Anyone knows what can be a reason of lack of Network connection service?
System is Vista Ultimate 32 bit.

We need more details please. is it wireless? Are you using a router or just a modem?
-
Thx for your reply
I would like to do adhoc connection to second laptop (without router), Wirless Network card is Intel 3945abg. -
is this what you are looking for? sorry if its not:

Not exactly, actually I know how to do adhoc connection between 2-3 and more comps. I want to do adhoc connection between 3 laptops to play a game (without Internet connection sharing)
Two comps are connected now but my college is facing a problem with Network Connection service which is unavailable (not visible in services at all). Moreover he cannot open Wireless card properties (to get access to TCP/IP settings to assign IP address) as after clicking on nothing is happening. I assume it is a problem with the service. -

Thats a good guide ice. Only thing is he said that he had Vista so the process is a little different, at least for me.
If that guide doesn't fit, try going to Network and Sharing Center and clicking on "Setup a Connection or Network" in the left pane. One of the options in newly opened window should be setup an adhoc network. I don't know if there is a peer limit in vista but i do know that the network will die if everyone logs off of it.
Let us know if you get it to work or have other questions! -

wait, so your saying that your buddy's network connection service isn't even in the list of microsoft services? so he can't connection to any networks, even besides your?
-
Yes, The guide is good. In other words, We did ad-hoc connection between 2 laptops (XP and Vista HE). XP is host (static IP 192.168.0.1), 1 st client is Vista HE (static IP 192.168.0.2). Now we would like to add my colleague with Vista Ultimate, but the problem he is cannot setup static IP as cannot get access to TCP/IP settings. Just when he tries to open Network card properties nothing happens.

Yes, and I have no idea why

Alright, a couple things you could try:
1st - right click on the network device in question and try diagnose and repair, then when it brings up a list of options try resetting the network adapter
2nd - type cmd in the search bar in start, hit ctrl-shift-enter to open in admin mode (allow it to do this), and type in "netsh int ip reset" (without quotes of course).
What things have you tried to do so far? -
1st and 2nd - did not help.
We tried to find some info in google but did not find anythin interesting. Not many such problems -
so you are talking your friend trying to access his tcp/ip settings under properties right....?
you can always try this elementary idea ..and he can restart his computer..not the best idea but sometimes restarting does the trick for me. -
Tried many times, without success. It would be too easy
. I will advise him to re-install Vista. He does not use any antivirus software, so maybe he caught something.

indeed, he could have something. probably not a virus but i would recommend running some malware programs like malwarebytes or superantispyware. also, just try to do a repair install not a complete reinstall, you may have thought that already.
one other thing you could try to do before attempting a repair install. try going to command prompt and typing in "sc query netman". that will give you an idea of whether or not there is any remnant of the service left on the computer. -

and another thing i thought of. try using regedit and going to ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services’ - that's where all of the windows services are located, running or not. Look for NETMAN, this is where the keys for the network connection service are located. If there is still a NETMAN folder in the SERVICES portion in regedit, then that means he at least still has the service, it just isn't responding correctly.
again, just a thought. if you feel like pursuing the regedit idea, let me know. i have a few ideas on how to get that service back depending on what the contents of that folder are. -
yea..if he does have malware/virus on his computer try running one of those programs mentioned above before going through the whole reinstall process.
though it may also be from your college's network problems..yea? -

I think he meant to say colleague when he said college. lol. not sure but it made sense to me
-
mmm..probably..LOL..
now it makes more sense...hehe thanx
-
sc query netman - gives message that such service does not exist.
The easiest will be to reinstall Vista - I give up. Thank you all for your help -

of course! I'm sorry we weren't able to offer an easy solution to your issue. Good luck with the reinstall! (Don't forget to do repair - it's faster and you won't lose all your info!) -
well hope things work after the reinstall..
remember data backup..but i'm sure ya knew that
