I dont have it, but there are no wired ports on the router. How do you connect a modem to the router? I dont understand. My stupid belkin has wired ports.
-
On the back side of the router there are 4 ethernet ports and one WAN port (that's for modem) + reset button.
-
Ok then i guess it is the same as my nonworking belkin router. i plug in my modem outlet power and sofourth. how is the speed and reliability on this model #. thanks
-
It's decent-to-good. There are better routers but more expensive (due to faster hardware).
You won't regret buying it especially that you can install 3rd party firmware on that. -
Which better routers with the faster hardware. I dont mind paying alittle more money. As i paid 130 for belkin n

I have had the GL version 6 for about 2 months. I haven't used it for a while since I sold my xbox 360 recently but I had no problems playing xbox live with it while directly connected with my desktop. I guess I'll put it to the real test when I get my laptop in. If anything goes wrong, I will post it here.

Asus WL-500G Premium for example.
It has faster CPU (266 vs. 200); more RAM (32MB vs. 16MB) and more flash (8MB vs. 4MB). It can be also used with 3rd party firmware just like WRT54GL- both are Broadcom based.
Additionally ASUS has USB port that allows you to download from http, ftp or Bittorent to a mass storage connected to USB port- both Flash USB pen-drive or HDD. The download doesn't require computer to be on.
You can also run FTP server on the drive or connect a webcam and access it via internet. Router has two USB 2.0 ports so you can use more than one device.
3rd party firmwares like DD-WRT will not let you download from Bittorrent or share a webcam but you do have a choice of firmwares and a great hardware.
Note that there are WL-500G, WL-500G Deluxe and WL-500G Premium.
Premium has the best hardware and that's my recommendation.

@ lawlz_xD There is no WRT54GL v6. It's either WRT54 GL v1 or v1.1 or WRT54 G or WRT54 GS v6. -

I have a wrt54gl. I've never rebooted it. Ever. And I bought it in 2005. It's on a Tripp Lite UPS with my cable modem and has 2+ years uptime now. Great product, lots of features, extremely reliable, I'll never sell mine.

what about the n series. anygood?

whoops sorry I was thinking about the GS, my apologies!
-
I'd say WRT350N v1 (may be a problem to get since there is already v2) and Asus WL-500W (that is WL-500G premium with "n" card)

DIR-655 seems fine to me.
-
After 90 days i suppose you have to pay for tech support by phone? -
dir 855 is coming soon. and with the n router if my wife has a3945abg internal card and the other laptop has n then i would have to upgrade her card to n. i want n just for the distance and not get disconnected. but, i should be ok with a g router even though my laptop is n wireless card.
