I want it to be to display up to date info on my signal strength in dbi, router's bssid, channel etc, all the basic info about my network at a minimum. Anybody know of one?

While not a connection manager
You could try using InSSIDer .... it is a basic network monitor -
wicd can do that.
-
last stable release of wicd is almost 18 months ago and it's a linux-only package.....
-
And why would that be a problem?
-
Going out on a limb here, but it may be a slight problem if the OP is running Windows or a Mac.......
And I sincerely doubt the OP would want to dual boot or run Linux in a VM just so they can use one opensource network utility. -
Well, if the OP posts a tread in an OS-independent forum he should mention for which OS he wants to have a specific software if it matters, don't you think?
-
He should have and you shouldn't have pretended that that don't know what may be wrong with recommending a package for an OS that's used by a whooping 1-5% of PC users (depending on a study).
Now that we're done with it please get back on topic. -
If you're running Windows 7
This if your running a MAC OS.
Last but not least, if you are not familiar with THIS website, I highly recommend taking a look at it. It is a site designed by and dedicated for Network and Security specialists and offers all kinds of tools and utilities.
Looking for a good, free wireless connection manager
