Don't remember exactly, but sometimes is better to pay a little bit more and get the product yesterday than to pay less and be waiting and waiting for the product :D

    I think it was newegg.com

Yeah, just give them a call and tell them the price you already have from buy.com, they might match it.

alright guys my router FINALLY shipped today. I will set it up tomorrow and let you know how it goes, and how i like it.

I might need some technical help though :). ALso from what i read on the few amazon reviews is there is a firmware update. do i download that from linksys or will the router have a link when i connect to it to search for new firmwares?

If it's a Linksys router then I suggest you download it from their web site.

Who did you buy it from?

Well the setup so far has been easy the only thing is im not sure what i should connect to on the 5ghz range and what on the 2.4ghz. the microsoft wireless card for the 360 just cannot seem to get good connection. it seems to jump from 1 bar to 3 bars. it cant get full connect my laptop with a intel n card gets excellent full bars according to vista.

I am not sure if i need to change the channel or how i can boost the signal to get the 360 faster. any help on that would be great.

If you are using 5GHz then you should setup your wireless adapter to operate for automatic 20/40MHz bandwidth. Also setup for maximum transmit power.

Check on your wireless adapter, the one in your laptop. Just right click on the network icon, select network and sharing center, select status, select properties and then look for those parameters.

As I said, 5GHz will allowed you to use the 40MHz bandwidth, and get over 140Mbps, perhaps 240Mbps WiFi speed.

its in a room directly above mine. the 2.4ghz range is full and the 5ghz is 2 bars sometimes it will get to 3 bars. according to vista it ranges from poor to good.

When connected to the 2.4ghz i get 130mpbs according to vista with the 5ghz it either shows 54 or 86 depending on the signal. That doesnt really make sense to me.

the internet speeds dont get affected either way. But i realize im speaking more towards the home network as i have a external HDD hooked up to the router.

2.4GHz would not get you 300Mbps, only if you have N and working with 40MHz channel in the 5GHz band.

hmm well im on the 2.4ghz band right now and on wireless N and according to vista it shows 130mbps. the 2.4ghz does allow 40mhz i believe.

it seems the 5ghz has little to no range. if i am right next to the router i get full bars if i go a few rooms over on the same floor it drops a bar.

That's correct, 20MHz channel will deliver 144Mbps and 40MHz channel will deliver up to 300Mbps.

I thought the 40MHz channel was available only on 5GHz, but I guess you also have it on 2.4GHz.

awww i wonder why the 5ghz doesnt have that great of a signal i wonder if its the router or just the location.

Those graphs are weird. For the same pathloss the 2.4GHz gets a better throughput than for 5GHz. If is the same pathloss then it means they have the same RSL, then they should have exactly the same performance.

Nevertheless, for the same distance 5GHz will have a higher pathloss than for the 2.4GHz, certainly and therefore a smaller throughput.

hmm so is the lack of signal why the 2.4ghz range shows a higher mbps?

The difference in pathloss between 2.4GHz and 5GHz is 6.4dB. Notice that a 3dB of pathlosss means half power loss.

That's _Vista "discovering" all of the different functionalities of your router and treating each as a separate device on the network. In this case, the various components of your router's QoS functionality.

If your nice problematic laptop that is sitting on a chair, or on a table or on your laps or your dog's back, is 10 feet from the dark color router sitting on a desk or fixed on the wall or hanging from the ceiling, then the 5GHz signal received by the laptop's wireless card antenna will be smaller by 6.4dB (or 4.3 times smaller) compared to the 2.4GHz signal, in other words, a 2.4GHz has a better coverage, are you still confused?

gotcha that makes sense. but with a lesser signal should i still go to the 5ghz signal or should i just go with the 2.4ghz?

If you don't have problem with interference, I would suggest you leave it at 2.4GHz.

With regards the icons, if they don't affect the laptop operation then I would just leave them there or perhaps put them in a folder called "Router".
