I have a V6Va with the most recent drivers. . . I think (I got them from Intel). Even though I'm two feet from my router I'm always disconnecting. Anyone have experience with this issue?
Thanks.

intel pro wireless cards can be picky with routers and drop signals. they especially suck with dlink routers.

as SRD eluded to Wireless is flaky with Intel cards (and others I am sure) huge thread on 2200 card and I have a 2915 which ain't much better - however some recent success for me has been :
If you are unsure about how to set it up read Nick's wireless guides some good info in there
Ensure Router has latest Firmware (can check www.dslreports.com in the Forms section for some info about firmware version by Vendor )
Download latest card drivers in some directory
Wipe out all exsting card drivers (if unsure get properties of your card choose drivers tab) - remove all those files likley in $windir\system32
Go to Device manager - unistall wireless card
Reboot
Windows will likley pick up new hardware on reboot
Choose install drivers manually - then point to the directory where your downloaded to
Set up connection
This may or may not offer any additional stability - for me I still get the ocassional disconnect , albiet it is more stable -
Im waiting for an atheros card i ordered supposed to be better about not dropping signals ill find out i guess.

I had the same problem- Inel 2915 card and D-link router. I tried the Netgear rangemax WPN824 and the connection was solid. I think I may go for the newer WPNT834 because the antenna gain is about twice as great.
BTW- I had previously tried all the tweaking- new drivers, router firmware, etc. Interestingly, my daughter had no problem at school maintaining her connection, but a nightmare in her apt. and lousy at home (both having the same DI-624 router), although other laptops were fine in both environments at the same time she got drops. I think these cards are just more sensitive to interference and the MIMO routers are designed to get around interference.
We have noticed that other units are getting consistently better signal strength as well, even without the super G type clients.
They are a bit pricey, but think of all the time and aggravation we've all had.... -
So m61376 are you saying by buying a mimo router your 2915abg card and connections are more stable ? I completley agree with your frustration and tweaking (been there done that to death)
I am considering either a MIMO Router or a new card (as SRD eluded to) - whatever fixes my grief ! -
Thanks everyone. I'll give it a try.

YES!!!! I tried the Netgear rangemax WPN824 and for the 2 days my daughter was home (the one with the 2915 card that has been so problematic is her laptop) the connection was virtually perfect (there was a single disconnect on AIM while unattended, so it may have been just an AIM sin off/on which sometimes happens, but other than that it was rock solid) with great signal strength. My husband also noticed a big difference in signal strength in his handheld.
Interestingly, her laptop is fine at school, which has a strong wireless signal (I assume), but suffers from frequent disconnects at home and as frequently as every 5 minutes in her apt.. I think the MIMO router, which excels at getting around interference may be the answer. After doing a lot of research I am thinking of swapping it for the newer WPNT834NA model that uses the new generation 3 Airgo chip, since that got amazing reviews. These are expensive routers and we won't see the high speeds with the Intel cards (you need the rangemax clients for that) but I did see solid connections at 54 Mbs without disconnects or signal drop-off. From talking with several people it seems that the Netgear ones, despite lousy customer service, give more stable connections.
Let me know how you fare- hope this is finally a solution for everyone! -
Well I opted for the New Card ( in a week or so I will have an update)
Went that route Intially as my other wireless machines (One Desktop / One Laptop) both use use Linksys cards. They have been pretty solid - so a new atheros card it is ....pretty cheap upgrade and the card is suppose to be better anyway....
I will likley get a MIMO router at some point - I need a VPN capable router in a few months so be shoping again soon (I am an Electronic Junkie - Hi my name is Dave it has been about 20 minutes since my last gadget purchase ...ahhhhhhhhh)
Losing wireless connection all the time
