OK, so I'm out in the boonies for the next few months...we do have broadboand, albeit, it's a bit slow.
My problem is I can only ping ONE CS:S server (ping 150+), I'm used to picking up THOUSANDS.
I've appropriately fowarded all ports.
Is it possible my ISP blocks ports (if so, that's crap)
Can someone give the the IPs to a few west coast servers (lowest ping possible) so I can ping them manually and try and figure out what's up?
Thanks

Where on the West Coast are you at? Upper or lower? I will get a couple ip's to ya.

What is your ping to google and yahoo?
-
I'm up in East Idaho
Pings (wow, pretty crappy):
Google: ~115
Yahoo: ~65 -
Okay last question what type of connection is it? fiber, dsl, or cable.
I found that i got the best pings on regular old dsl. cable was the worst, and fiber (im on now) is in the middle.
Google used to be in the 30's-50's for me, now its in the 80's and yahoo is in the 70's. -
We're living with the in-laws for a few months while I'm on an internship...I can't be certain the exact type of internet, but it's some sort of wireless internet that comes in through a radio receiver on the roof.

Oh satellite probably then. There is such a thing. It is expensive and will have high ping times just based on its architecture. If thats the case theres nothing you can do. Are they that remote that regular services dont reach them?
-
If you have satellite internet then you should unfortunately just forget about multiplayer gaming. If you think about it, the signal has to travel a long ways (into space lol).

These are all under 50 from my location in SoCal on VZW DSL. Seems my pings are the inverse of yours, haha.

it is not satellite. The signal gets here from a tower a few miles away. I can ping some places sub-100.

If you download and install the trial version of Speed Meter Pro (Cisco) and run the system scan, it'll connect you to server based on your location (closest city). It'll also give you the skinny on just how good or bad the entire network you're running on is, both up and down. You can also install it on other local systems for an internal network speed reading that's pretty accurate.
SMP is here: Speed Meter Pro -
Thanks for the IP's manual test give me sub 100 for each server...and then I added them as favorites in Steam and all pinged sub-100...but then two of the dissappeared...perhaps I should reinstall Steam.
Checked that app out, was nice, but didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, unfortunately.
I wonder if this RadioWave technology has the same failures....
...sigh, I sure miss my FiOs -
Sub 100 is definitely playable. 150 is about my outside ping that I will go into, besides, most will boot you at 100+. Steam has a tendency to drop servers and such, don't worry too much about it.

Well, the problem is two-fold:
One, Steam isn't populating any servers to begin with.
Two, I'm getting the feeling that my ISP is crap and will have to give up my occasional waste-of-time sessions
until i get back to school
Download/Speed tests are so sporadic. I'll get anywhere from 50-500 KB/sec on download tests and anywhere from 500-5000 kbps on the speed test...pretty frustrating.
NEW ISP: cannot ping any CS:S servers
