I need some help. I have never used a router in the past before. Have only had one computer so a router was never needed. I recently purchased a Sager NP2090 which should be delivered this week.

I was wondering what a good router would be to buy. I went to Best Buy today and was confused by the sheer amount of routers out there.

I am looking for something around 100 USD that will be able to handle internet and some gaming. I also use cable internet from the cable company. Any advice would be most helpful.

    Thank you in advance!

Routers are really a swing or a miss. For instance, I still using a Microsoft 802.1b router that's still kicking it from 2002. Personally, I would want to avoid Netgear.

I've found the Belkin G router to be the most user friendly (Plug it in, and it works. Although you'd probably want to enable wireless encryption, which isn't difficult to do either). Linksys is also very good, but I suggest reading the reviews on individual models from newegg.

Not very sure about N routers.

I've the Linksys WRT54GL router(802.11g) and it is excellent no dropped singnal, steady rate of throughput and a strong singnal in a three story house. Plus it can be flashed with third-party firmware. Here a link to it you maybe able to find it cheaper somewhere else ie newegg.
