I want to get a new one instead of this lousy D-Link DI-614+ I have.

Currently, I have a Westell 6100 Modem through Verizon.

    Price: Under $100

    Let me know!

Well 100$ is a pretty big budget. If you want alot of featuers then the ASUS WL-500gP is great. It has USB and all kinds of other stuff. It costs about 100$.

If you feel you dont need all that stuff then the BUFFALO WHR-G54S is great. Stable and good range. Can use DD-WRT or other firmware if you want. It should cost less then 50$.

I second the recommendation for the Asus WL-500gP router. I replaced a horrible D-Link that kept dropping connection every few days with one and it has great signal strength, no drops or problems with it yet (after about a 6-8 months of constant use). It also serves as a USB print server and you can attach a hard drive to it for USB network storage if needed. Setup is also very simple, as with most routers these days.

Another nice feature about the Asus, if you like tinkering with your hardware,is that it runs some form of Linux code, and there are some homebrew BIOS updates and configurations out there for it which improve performance and add features. I haven't done any of those things, but it's nice to have the option.

Stay away from the new linksys wrt54gs (v7). It locks up every 4 hr. The wireless performance is good. The wired can not support more that 1 user without it locking up.

You might consider flashing your router with the DD-WRT firmware or another one. It tends to be more stable and featureful than the default firmware was for me, at least on my WRT54GL

Cisco saves the real good stuff for themselves. :)

I just installed a few Cisco 1131 WAPs and they are AWESOME! Got some 1231s going in next week. I use the 1800 series routers as my standard for businesses and Have a Cisco PIX at home tunneled to my 2600 at the office.

Get the Linksys SRX-200 if you can. They can be had for $100 or less. WAY better range and throughput than the typical $50 routers.

SRX200 is actually a feature of the WRT54GX2 that I recomended in my first post, It is not an actual model. I agree wuth you about the performance. I have had great luck installing about 25 of these routers so far.

could be numerous things. I always tend to suspect the laptop before I suspect the router. Test with another laptop or another wireless acces point or router to clearify what is actually causing the problem.

Some wireless card in notebooks are junk. My averatec has a Raylink 2500, and it looses and drops connection 10' from the router with no walls. This is mainly due to the fact that some mfg to not play well with others.
