    Right now I have AOL and its getting to be a little to slow, lol. I tried calling all the local phone companies and asked about high speed and none of them offer it where I live, they told me my option was to go satellite. So I have been looking at DISH Network satellite connection stuff as thats my TV provider. The cheapest packages I have found have an upload and download of 512 kbps and 128 kbps. I would also like to have wireless in my house if I could. I am clueless when it come to high speed/wireless/etc. Any help/comments are more then helpful. Thank you guys.

    that seems a tad slow, i believe. no one offers high speed? you must live in the woods or something. i think 1 mbps should be the lowest if you want a lot of speed

    although i dont know what i have :)

    so dont quote me on this as i may be wrong

    One thing to remember about satellite is when it really stormy signal does go down, but thats just like satellite TV and rarely happens.

    well its worth it if:

    you can pay for it
    its your only option
    you really want it

    when you think about it, its not that bad its about 10 times faster than dialup and it should be somewhat dedicated, not really sharing any streams like cable.....but if its all you can get and its not real expensive, see if they have a trial period

    Well right now I have aol and with 3 teenagers this year living here I need to get some where I can get wireless. If I get like satellite and stuff, how does that work? Do I still have a phone line for the computer and stuff. How do I go about getting the computers to be wireless. And as of now all the surrounding areas (well most) offer DSL when I called, but my town doesnt and its been this way for a few years now. So I am thinking of just going with a one year plan and then after that maybe I can get some something better. Heres one of the ones I was looking at...

    well you have the internet brought to your home so its like this

    internet signal--->house modem---->router----->pc

    a router would be something that takes the incoming signal from your dsl/cable/satelite modem and then splits it into seperate but equal signals....

    if you want wireless in your homse, you would need to get a wireless router (like the wrt54g) and then wireless PCI or Expresscard to go with your Desktop or Laptop computer

    To get a more realistic answer, we would need more information....such as how many computers do you have, is it a laptop or desktop and what the model is
