Man, I'm going nuts trying to get my Lenovo T61 to get connectivity at home. I have tried all the regular stuff, power cycling the router etc. I called lenovo and they said I had to configure for my home network. I've never had to do that with any of my other laptops and have no clue how. This thing will just not get connectivity no matter what I do. Plugging into the router directly works, but thats it. Any ideas?

Also, it says its sending packets, but not receiving any. I tried to repair the connection, but it wouldn't work. Next step, sledgehammer!

type in IPconfig /all in your command prompt
Post back what it says for your wireless adapter.
Your IP address is probably just not set up properly. -
I cant copy and paste, but this is what it looked like:
Windows ip configuration
ip routing enabled: no
WINS proxy enabled: no
Ethernet adapter wireless network connection
intel wireless wifi link 4965ag
phys addy: 00-1f-3b-8b-e5-8d
dhcp enabled: yes
autconfiguration enabled: yes
autoconfig ip: 169.254.140.204
subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
default gateway: (blank, nothing here) -
Is this the right info?

It looks like your router isn't set up properly, because the IP address of the router should be appearing under the heading "default gateway" and it's not, so the router isn't providing that information via DHCP properly.
That missing default gateway is why your system says that it's connected, and is sending packets, but you cannot get anything to load. Basically, when you enter a domain name or IP address into your browser's address bar, if that name/IP isn't on the same local subnet your computer is attached to, the packets get sent to the IP address for the default gateway - basically, the default gateway is the finder for everything outside the local subnet. Since your computer doesn't have an IP address for a default gateway, it has no idea where to send packets that are being sent to IP addresses outside your local subnet - so, it's sending packets, but none are getting anywhere because the packets don't have the right gateway IP address on them (thus, the router is just ignoring them).
You need to log onto your router's admin page and make sure that the router is configured properly.
Also, release and renew your DHCP lease, if the router's set up properly, that should get all of the needed info to the computer. -
also the fact that his "autoconfig ip" is: 169.254.x.x means that he's not being assigned an IP by the router. that IP is usually assigned by windows when dhcp fails.

Good point. I thought I recognized that IP as being a little fishy, but couldn't put my finger on it.

The other laptops (3 now, i just pulled out my old one) all connect no problem. Any particular reason my t61 is being so picky?
-
Maybe something is wrong with your wireless drivers so the card can't "see" the router and therefore assigns APIPA..tried to reinstall the drivers?
You have a firewall? -
got it thanks for the help. configuring from the routers admin page did it.
