I have a Wireless-G router right now on my desktop. When I buy my laptop do I need to configure it with a Wireless-G card? Or can I pay more for the Wireless-N (which I assume works better?)?

If you don't get a 11n router, then there won't be a difference. Unless you transfer a lot of files on your network, I'd recommend staying with 11g

Like hehe said, stay away from 11n till the spec in finalized and the mfg are shipping hardware that meets the new finalized spec. They are tring to get MFG to play well with each other. Right now they DO NOT, so you have problems.
Besides if you have any 11g networks close to you it will knock you out of MIMO mode to a lower speed. -
You can if you want get the N card in your laptop. It will work on a G network, but only at 54 mb

that is true. But the N is already on Draft 2 so if you want to get an N now, it will still be compatible to the final N version, as they are pretty close in finalizing the N.
