A friend of my wife's wants some help with printing wireless from her Windows 8 laptop but some of this is confusing to me too. Here's the deal she has always printed wireless from her laptop until she had to get a new AT&T modem/router and since then it hasn't worked.

I haven't looked at her setup yet but as far as I know her printer has never been connected via Ethernet to her laptop or any other PC. She says every time she clicks to print something it says to connect a printer.

Does this sound like she has a Wireless Printer and changing the router messed things up? If so what is the procedure/tutorial I could follow to get her back printing wireless from her laptop?

Either she has a wireless printer or she had a router that worked as a print-server (usually by connecting the printer to USB port of a router and installing software from router manufacturer on user PC).
Either way there is not enough information to get us going - we don't know what printer she has, what router she had and so on.

A lot of printers that have built-in WiFi also have Ethernet ports, so the printer could have been connected to the router that way.

If the printer was connected to the old router via WiFi, the OP should check if it has been connected to the new router. If so, it might be a simple matter of uninstalling and reinstalling the printer drivers/software on the computer in question.

We're talking AT&T routers here which I've had in the past and they're pretty basic.

Ok well I have no idea what kind of printer, etc. she has and was afraid I'd get to her house and not have a clue where to start. Guess I'll have to give it try and see if I can figure it out.

check the menu on the printer and manually connect it to her new wireless router. I had to do that and it worked.

On some printers, it's a case of pressing the WPS button on the printer and then pressing the WPS button on the router so they can connect to each other (If this is the case you'll be done pretty quickly). I'm betting it's a wireless printer, since they'd probably mention that there's no longer a USB port to plug the printer into, on the new router, if this were the case.

I don't think AT&T routers are sophisticated enough to have a WPS button.

I'm still waiting for her clear time on her schedule so I can have a look at her situation so I'm waiting for her to call. I will report back.
