I am having trouble hooking up to the internet with my laptop. This is probably the easiest thing to do but I don't have the patience. I connected a cable from my modem to my laptop. The computer recognizes that it is connected with the modem BUT I can't hook up to the internet. When I go to Local Area Connection Status is says Limited or no connectivity. When I try and *repair* it, a window comes up saying that Windows is renewing my IP adress. . After 10 or so seconds it says *Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed(Renewing your IP address).*
For assistance, contact the person who manages your network. LOL what network? I simply am trying to hook my laptop up to the internet.
It works with my desktop to connect to the internet.
Can someone please help me fix this problem?

    Thanks in advance :)

Yeah, I know, this is probably the easiest thing to fix, lol. Me and computers though, oy

If it's a DSL Modem, you'll need to install the DSL software on the laptop. Also, without a router, you may not be able to use the Desktop and Laptop online at the same time.

Also, if you are connecting it to your laptop without resetting your modem you will have a problem. The modem will send the info to the MAC address on your computer, that is why the laptop says there is limited or no connectivity.

    1) Reset your modem. Wait for all the lights to come on that are normally on.

    2) Plug it into your laptop.

    3) Reset your laptop to redectect the settings.

Yes, if it is for DSL you will have to install the drivers for the modem and the DSL software.

    Hope this helps.
