I'm using a Sony VAIO laptop and I seem to have a problem trying to connect to the net via cable. Nothing happens when I plugged in the network cable from the modem to the laptop. When I go to My Network Places, I don't see the icon for direct connection anywhere. This doesn't happen when I tried connecting to my sister's VAIO laptop which is an older version one. Could it be that my VAIO doesn't have a network card installed?
Anyone have any ideas as to why this is so?
Thank you.![]()

Did you disable your ethernet connection? When you look in the device manager, does your ethernet NIC show up?

Read this Microsoft document to learn about the device manager:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/2d8d5582-c5bc-4395-945f-5c6a273c5afa1033.mspx
Once you open up the device manager, look under the network section.
