Recommendations on dual band wireless router that allows for a free DDNS?

I need a dual band router with at least one USB port (to plug in my printer) that will allow me to assign a FREE dynamic DNS. What routers meet this criteria?

I've got a netgear WNDR4300 right now and I realize netgear only lets me get dynamic DNS's from dyndns.org, not from any other provide (really sucks)r. Dyndns.org don't offer free dynamic DNSs anymore, you have to pay money.

I stream video all the time but don't play video games. I need a dynamic DNS cause I want to set up backup to my mybooklive NAS through SFTP/SSH.

Why not flash DD-WRT on it- that would allow you to use different DNS providers? Version 4 is supported- I don't know which is your.

 

That's a good idea. But my sister needs a new router anyway so I was just going to give her mine and get a new one for me.

Plus, I'm afraid I'll end up bricking my router.

 

WNDR4300 is a pretty good router. Are you looking for something with 802.11ac?

It's hard to brick a netgear router unless you are writing directly to the NAND or writing nvram when you aren't 100% sure what you are doing. You will almost always have failsafe tftp built into the bootloader.

 

I picked up a WZR-600DHP for sale on newegg a month or two ago, and it's been working great. Comes with dd-wrt pre-installed.

 

My router doesn't have a version number written on it so I assume it's a 1st version, so can't have dd-wrt installed on it unfortunately.

I'd go for an ac model except they cost so much money.

Getting a router with dd-wrt preinstalled sounds like a great idea.

Is there one that has dd-wrt preinstalled that has 450 mbps for the 5 GHz frequency?

 

Looking around I find no N900 (450 x 2 band) Buffalo routers that come with dd-wrt. Note sure there are any that can even take dd-wrt software.

Since all my laptops are n300 2.4 or 5GHz, this router is perfect for me. Performance is good, range is decent, but not necessarily great.

i have a Linksys E4200 with Tomato firmware (K26 USB MIPSR2 110 AIO) and i do recommend it as a dual band router (it also support PPPoE IPv6 / DHCPv6 PD).

as a DynDNS i'm using DUIA.ro - Dynamic Updates for Internet Addressing - it's FREE, supports IPv4/IPv6, has a GUI and console version client and the most important you can update IPv6 addresses of your LAN devices using the console version client on your router; this is the binary i'm using on my Linksys:

this is very usefull if you want to access your IPv6 webcam behind the CPE that has its own IPv6 global address.
